 BASIC BRIEF

As is evident, there is a huge boom in the production of storytelling entertainment. By implication, the demand for good writing has skyrocketed.

There are now scores of talented aspiring writers who are keen to enter the field and new writers who want to make their mark in the growing field of screenwriting. It is important that they ground their creativity in a solid understanding of the craft.

This workshop continues to give you that – a substantial introduction to the basics of storytelling and screenwriting.

Here’s what you can expect (sessions are of 90 minutes):

  • An introductory session on STORYTELLING, a session on IDEA, PREMISE, PLOT, two each on CHARACTER, STRUCTURE and SCENE DESIGN & DIALOGUE.
  • A session on WRITING A BIBLE FOR AN OTT SERIES.
  • A session PSYCHOLOGY and the different DEFENCE MECHANISMS that people employ to hide their true feelings.
  • Two sessions on MYTHOLOGY, its conflicted characters, plotting, and what screenwriters can learn from that.
  • Two sessions on Joseph Campbell’s ‘HERO’S JOURNEY’ and on mythic structure and the struggles of the protagonist.
  • Four GUEST SESSIONS – Sriram Raghavan (Andhadhun), Alankrita Shrivastava (Made in Heaven, Lipstick Under My Burkha), Mitesh Shah (Tumbbad, Script Consultant), Durgesh Singh (Gullak).
  • A practice session on how to PITCH YOUR SCRIPTS.
  • A session on WRITERS’ RIGHTS, PROTECTING YOUR WORK, SWA.
  • A final session with SUBHASH GHAI. Of his struggle, of his screenwriting journey, and his comments on the state of cinema today.
