SWA AWARDS 2024

The Only Awards For Screenwriters and Lyricists!

The Screenwriters Association Awards ceremony, dubbed “SWA Awards,” was launched in 2020 as part of the association’s Diamond Jubilee Year. It is India’s first and only award for screenwriters and lyricists of Hindi Films, TV Serials/Shows and Web Series. The awards in the various categories are decided by a jury comprised of eminent screenwriters and lyricists from various mediums of the entertainment industry. These awards are by the screenwriters, for the screenwriters.

Objective

A major goal of the event is to recognize and celebrate the best screenwriting of the year in various categories. It also aims to introduce the entertainment industry to the best writers and lyricists, and bring the best of writing content to producers and broadcasters.   Rather than ticket box office, TRP, total income, or popularity, the most successful writing is determined by the quality of the writing art (content and craft).

Award Categories

SWA Awards are given in several categories in different mediums of script writing. They are as follows:

In all 3 sub-categories, separate Awards are presented for Best Story, Best Screenplay, and Best Dialogue.

LYRICS

1. Best Lyrics – For Film, and
2. Best Lyrics – For TV Serial & Web Series

Songs from both TV Serials and Web Series are included in this category and the best lyrics award are given to any one song from all the songs included.

About SWA:

Screenwriters Association is a trade union for screenwriters and lyricists working for feature films, Television shows & Web series. Any individual who desires to become a writer or lyricist for films, Television or digital media can become a member of SWA.

SWA Awards Rules and Regulations

Membership of SWA is not a criterion for the participating Writer/Lyricist

No fee of any kind is to be paid for this. (No fees will be charged by SWA for nomination)

Nomination Eligibility:

In all the following circumstances, the writer will NOT be permitted to file a nomination.

If the writer files a nomination and is found to be in the list of exclusions, the nomination will be automatically discarded –

1. Dubbed films, short films or films of less than 70 minutes’ duration will not be included in this award process.
2. Authors of programs aired on DTH platforms like Tata Sky, Airtel, Videocon will be considered ineligible for submission of nominations.
3. Writers – Lyricists of any non-fiction Films, Serials, Series are not eligible for nomination.
4. Writers-lyricists of Children’s Films/TV Serials/Web Series too are not eligible to submit their nomination for this award.
5. Non-Hindi language songs from a Hindi film, TV Serial or Web Series will not be considered eligible for entry for the awards. Similarly, Hindi songs from a non-Hindi film, TV Serial or Web Series will also not be eligible for nomination.
6. If a writer has been found guilty in any case relating to sexual harassment or is undergoing a trial against him, then that person will not be qualified to file a nomination
7. If there is an ongoing or proven case of copyright infringement or script piracy (at SWA’s DSC or any court) and the author knowingly hides this information, the entry of that author, writing team, or lyricist will be immediately disqualified.
8. No song will be considered eligible for this award unless it has been featured in a film, television series, or web series.

Terms and Conditions (Nomination Procedure):

1. All genres of TV Shows, Web Series and Lyrics are welcome to file for a nomination
2. Please submit separate entries for more than one category and/or for more than one TV Serial, Web Series and Songs.
3. Any writer who has written for all three categories of story, screenplay, and dialogue in a film, television series, or web series is eligible to nominate themselves for all three in separate categories.
4. If the entire script or story, screenplay, dialogues, and lyrics are written by more than one writer, any one writer can fill in the entry on behalf of the team, nevertheless all the writers on that team will be eligible for the awards.
5. If multiple writers are working on the same TV serial/web series, they can individually submit two consecutive episodes for which they have been credited.
6. Only the author can submit the entry form. No one else can do this on his/her behalf. However, in the event of death, their relatives can submit the entry for the award along with the death certificate, which will have to be submitted.
7. Submission of entry is not required for the story, screenplay and dialogue of feature films. All Hindi films, which have been released either in cinemas in India or on any OTT platform in India during the period from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, are automatically included in the SWA list. The film will not be considered eligible for submission if it has been screened only at an Indian or international film festival.
8. The list of all the films being considered for the Film Awards will be published on the SWA website. If any writer feels that her/his particular film (released in the year 2023) is not on the list, the writer can communicate with the awards committee at awards@swaindia.org
9. To file a nomination for Lyrics of a song from a released  movie, the lyricist has to fill in the entry himself, and while filling out the entry, the link to the song as well as the pdf of the lyrics have to be uploaded.
10. For TV shows and web series, episode length should not be less than 20 minutes.
11. For the story category of the TV serial, the broad story of the serial has to be submitted, which should be about 5 to 10 pages. Its font size should be 12 and it has to be uploaded in PDF format at the time of filling out the Nomination form. OR include links to five consecutive episodes of their choice along with a password (if your links require a password).
12. Nomination forms from the writers of TV serial and Web Series should include links to two consecutive episodes of their choice for the screenplay and dialogue category, along with a password (if your links require a password).
13. The PDF of the lyrics of the song has to be uploaded along with the nomination form. The name of the film, TV serial or web series has to be mentioned along with it. Please upload written lyric/s in PDF format along with the form. Please mention the name of the Film, TV Serial or Web Series it featured in.
14. If you are unable to upload the documents online, please submit the hard copy of the Song or kindly submit it on a pen drive at SWA office
15. Authors of a film or web series released on YouTube can also submit their entry for the award if the production company producing the film or web series is a member of any one of the four producer associations based in Mumbai and the producer has signed a contract with the author.
16. In the case of a sequel, the writers of the sequel are not required to get permission from the writers of the first season before submission. However, on winning, the names of the writers of Season 1 will be announced along with those of Season 2 writers.
17. Only those writers/lyricists who have a writing credit on screen are eligible for submission. However, you are not eligible for submission if your name has appeared under the heads of Associate Writer, Script Consultant, or Script Head.
18. Even if the producer and/or channel forbid him, the author may still submit his entry because the SWA will not screen the aforementioned TV series/web series on any other media or platform. The permission of the manufacturer or the channel is thus not necessary.
19. The script and/or song of the nominated film, TV serial, web series, and/or song should not be pending or proved to be copyright infringement or script theft in the DSC of SWA or any other trade union or in a court of law.

ABOUT SWA SCRIPT LAB & PITCH FEST 2024

1. The Screenwriters Association of India (SWA) is an association of screenwriters and lyricists. It is our continuous effort to encourage and educate emerging writers and help them to improve their craft.
2. As a part of this endeavour, SWA conducted its first Script Lab in 2022 for feature film scripts and the Script Lab 2023 for web series scripts.
3. To add to this, twenty five (25) scripts submitted by participants were selected for the Pitch Fest in which each one of them got a chance to pitch their scripts of films to as many as twenty (20) producers, studio executives, and talent agencies from the industry in the first edition and twenty five (25) scripts submitted by participants were selected to pitch their scripts of web series to forty (40) producers, studio executives, and talent agencies during the second edition.
4. Following the phenomenal success of the first two, SWA now announces the third edition of both events, this time for Feature Film.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

In order to apply to SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest 2024, it is mandatory to abide by the following terms and conditions.

PROCESS:

1. At SWA Script Lab 2024, screenwriters will be encouraged to submit their Feature Film Script (Synopsis and screenplay). Up to six (6) finalists (subject to change at the absolute discretion of SWA) will be shortlisted after two rounds of selection (details below) for one-on-one feedback sessions with our mentors. Our endeavour with the Script Lab is to help the participant screenwriters understand the scope of improvement in their own script/writing with these sessions, while also presenting them an opportunity to connect with these mentors.
2. At SWA Pitch Fest 2024, up to twenty-five (25) finalists (subject to change at the absolute discretion of SWA) will get an opportunity to pitch their Feature Films to producers, studios and agents during an exclusive event organized by SWA. Once selected for the Pitch Fest, the finalists will also receive a workshop to help them prepare for the event. Our endeavour with the Pitch Fest is to help the participant screenwriters connect with industry professionals.
3. Only those entries that have been applied for Script Lab 2024 will be eligible for consideration for Pitch Fest 2024.
4. Any scripts that have been either (i) finalist of previous Script Lab(s), or (ii) finalist of previous Pitch Fest(s) shall not be eligible to be submitted to SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest 2024.
5. Subject to above, Script(s) submitted during previous editions of Script Lab and/or Pitch Fest may be submitted upon fulfilling the terms and conditions, and the submission requirement prescribed hereinbelow for SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest 2024.
6. A script authored by more than one author, subject to a maximum of three (3) shall be allowed, however, only the authors who have been declared by the participant during submission of their respective entry(ies) applied for participation in the SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest 2024, in the manner provided below, shall be entitled to attend the events.

ELIGIBILITY:

1. The participant must be an Indian citizen OR an NRI.
2. The applicant must be at least 18 years of age on the date of application.
3. Scripts of only Feature Films shall be considered for evaluation. No web series or short film script will be eligible for the contest. Also, anthology films will not be eligible.
4. For a film to be eligible for consideration, it must be minimum 70 minutes in length. The details of submission requirements are given below.
5. ALL SWA members as well as non-members are welcome to apply.
6. Only scripts registered with a valid authority, such as SWA, WGA, or Copyright Office will be eligible for submission.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

STAGE 1: Your application must include the following in English or Hindi. (In case you write in any other language, kindly translate your work to English or Hindi before submission.) The last date to submit is 5th February, 2024. All submissions should be made online through the Google Form link mentioned below only.

1. The following in a single PDF document:
   • A Logline, in not more than 40 words.
   • A synopsis, in not more than 2500 words, registered with a valid authority, such as SWA, WGA, or Copyright Office.
2. Writer’s Statement, in not more than 600 words (a brief note about your project and your vision for the project).
3. A short bio about you and the co-writer/s, if any, in not more than 150 words per writer. (Note that only up to three (3) writers per project are eligible to participate regardless of how many writers have worked on the project).
4. An undertaking by the participant (CLICK to download), agreeing to the terms and conditions of the Script Lab and the Pitch Fest. At the time of making your submission, we will share a copy of the undertaking with you that you will be required to sign and send a scanned copy back to us.
5. Apart from these documents, you also need to submit the first ten pages of your screenplay (with dialogue) based on the following specifications:
   • Fully formatted PDF document, registered with any valid authority such as SWA, WGA, or the Copyright Office.
   • The script must be typed out. Handwritten and/or scanned scripts will be ineligible.
   • The submission must be in Courier Font, Size 12 (formatted as per industry standards.)
   • DO NOT submit your full-length screenplay at this stage. Only the first ten pages of the screenplay need to be submitted.

Important: For the sake of anonymity, none of your documents, except the bio, should bear your name or any other personal information. Each page of all your documents must only bear the registration number (reference number/transaction id in case of SWA) in the footer, along with the date of registration. Any entry with a document mentioning the name or identity of the author shall be rejected, without any requirement of any intimation to the participant.

Here’s how to do it.

1. Get your synopsis and first ten pages of the script registered separately.
2. Note down the transaction ID/reference number from the registration certificates.
3. Make new PDFs of your synopsis and first ten pages of script mentioning the respective transaction ID/reference number and the date of registration in the footer only.
4. Make sure that these two documents do not bear your name anywhere before submitting.
5. Visit the Google form and submit your entry.

STAGE 2: If you are shortlisted for this stage, you will be informed of the same latest by 20^th March 2024. You will then be required to submit the following documents by 6th May 2024.

1. Your screenplay (with dialogue). It can be anywhere between 70 and 130 pages in length (formatted as per industry standards).

Note:

Do not submit any other document such as your research work for the script, casting preferences etc. Make your submission strictly as per the requirements mentioned above.

OTHER IMPORTANT CRITERIA:

1. If you have an ongoing case at SWA’s Dispute Settlement Committee or any other authority including the Court of Law regarding copyright infringement claims on a script, you will not be eligible to participate with that particular script.
2. Multiple entries are allowed, given that each entry is submitted using a separate form and fee.
3. Scripts in all genres will be eligible.
4. If you have submitted your entry to any other script lab that legally forbids you to submit the script to any other competition or lab, please do not apply with that script.
5. We expect a large number of submissions and hence will not be in a position to give any reason for the non-selection of an entry.
6. Allocation of mentors will be at the sole discretion of SWA and the participant shall not be entitled to object to such allocation at any stage.
7. There will be no cash prize.
8. Failure to submit the full script after selection, or failure to attend the Script Lab/ Pitch Fest after being adjudged among the winning scripts may result in barring the participant from the next three editions of SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest, unless the Participant has a valid reason, and has officially been excused (in writing) by SWA in its sole discretion, well in advance.
9. The six (6) finalists of the Script Lab must ensure that in case their script is produced for the screen in any form, SWA will receive due credit as “Script Mentored at SWA Script Lab 2024”. This credit will be accompanied with the SWA logo, on a best-effort basis. The Participant agrees and undertakes that he/she shall, in the event he/she is declared a finalist of the Script Lab, sign the contract with the producers capturing this term.
10. The twenty-five (25) finalists of the Pitch Fest must ensure that in case their script is produced for the screen in any form, SWA will receive due credit as “Script Selected at SWA Pitch Fest 2024”. This credit will be accompanied with the SWA logo, on a best effort basis. The Participant agrees and undertakes that he/she shall, in the event he/she is declared a finalist of the Pitch Fest, sign the contract with the producers capturing this term.

IMPORTANT TIMELINES:

1. Last Date for Submission: 11:59 PM IST, 05^th February 2024.
2. Declaration of shortlisted entries: 20^th March 2024.
3. Last Date of Submission for the Final Round: 06^th May 2024.
4. Script Lab mentorship program commencement: July/August 2024.
5. Pitch Fest: July/August 2024.

The deadlines may be changed at the sole discretion of SWA, without any prior notice, by publishing the same on SWA website.

PARTICIPANTS’ REPRESENTATIONS, WARRANTIES, UNDERTAKINGS & INDEMNITY(IES)

1. The Participant represents and affirms that the Participant is at least 18 years of age as of the date of submitting the Submission and has read and understood the entire content of the terms and accepts the same. The Participant is fully able and competent to enter into the terms, conditions, obligations, affirmations, representations, and warranties set out herein, and to abide by and comply with the same.
2. The Participant represents and undertakes that works forming part of the Submission are submitted to the Script Lab and the Pitch Fest, and is original and does not violate any statutory rights, common law rights, third party rights, title or interest, including but not limited to intellectual property rights including copyright, proprietary rights, or any other rights of any person or entity.
3. The Participant represents and undertakes that the Submission has been submitted for the Script Lab and Pitch Fest on a voluntary and confidential basis.
4. The Participant represents and undertakes that the Submission does not contain any confidential information and/or personal data relating to any third party.
5. The Participant agrees and confirms that SWA and/or the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest receive numerous entries from different participants during Script Lab and Pitch Fest and other events that SWA may organize. Further, the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest being creators themselves, professionally create several literary and dramatic works. These materials are independently made without referring to the Submission (“Independent Materials”). These Independent Materials may have incidental/generic or idea-level similarities with the Submission. Such similarities shall not obligate SWA and/or the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest to the Participant in any manner whatsoever, provided, SWA and/or the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest have independently developed or legally obtained/accessed the same either from any third party heretofore or hereafter autonomously or exclusively from sources other than the Participant. Further, if the Submission or part thereof is in the public domain and/or does not constitute protectable property and/or is not original, the Participant shall not have any claim whatsoever if SWA and/or the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest are associated with a similar subject material at any time.
6. Nothing contained herein or otherwise, imposes an obligation on SWA, to accept or utilize the Submission or part thereof and SWA reserves the right to accept or reject the Submission or part thereof at its sole discretion.
7. Submitting the Submission and/or participation in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest does not entitle the Participant to receive any compensation, whether monetary or otherwise, from SWA.
8. I understand that SWA shall be conducting the Script Lab & Pitch Fest, and shall, on best-effort-basis, endeavour to ensure:

• All prospective producer(s)/studio(s)/platform(s) sign a non-disclosure agreement and maintain the confidentiality of Submission(s) made to them during Script Lab and Pitch Fest.
• All Submission(s), whenever shared with a mentor and/or evaluator and/or reader by SWA, shall be under an obligation of confidentiality. Further, SWA staff and/or organizers of Script Lab and Pitch Fest shall ensure to maintain confidentiality of all Submission(s).
• SWA organizes the Script Lab and Pitch Fest in a manner as to benefit the participants, in best possible way, from the opportunity of receiving mentorship for the betterment of their craft and the opportunity to pitch their work to prospective producer(s), studio(s), platform(s), etc.

9. The Participant represents and undertakes that the Submission is not in violation of any applicable laws and the Participant shall ensure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations throughout the process of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest.
10. The Participant has complete authority and right to submit the Submission for the Script Lab and Pitch Fest as per the Terms, is not under any disability preventing the Participant from participating in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest or submitting the Submission, and is not bound by any other agreement (whether executed prior to or during the participation in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest) which adversely affects the Participant’s participation in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest or is contrary to the terms and conditions herein. The Participant has not granted any right, title or interest in the Submission or any part thereof, to any third party and the Submission is free of any charges, liens, or other encumbrances.
11. By participating in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, the Participant agrees and confirms that in the event the Participant has co-authored the Submission with any other writer(s), such co-author(s) shall also be equally bound by all the Terms contained herein. The Participant declares that he/she agrees and undertakes to seek necessary consent and undertaking(s) from his/her co-author(s) of the submissions, which in no manner shall be on less rigorous terms as stated herein.
12. The Participant represents and undertakes that the Participant has not submitted the Submission to any other script lab or screenwriting competition which forbids the submission of the Submission to the Script Lab and Pitch Fest or any other script lab or screenwriting competition. Further, Participant expressly declared that the Submissions to the Script Lab and Pitch Fest are not presently under consideration by any third party for production and/or development.
13. The Participant shall not behave in such a manner as to prejudice the reputation of SWA or restrict/prevent the successful completion of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest.
14. The Participant agrees and confirms that the Participant does not have any ongoing dispute pertaining to the Submission with the Dispute Settlement Committee (DSC) of SWA or before any other statutory, administrative, judicial or quasi-judicial authority, including any action, claim or proceedings pertaining to the Submission before any court of law. The Participant agrees and accepts that the Participant shall not be eligible to participate in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest with the Submission in such case.
15. The Participant agrees and confirms that the Submission or any part thereof does not violate the statutory rights of, or the right of privacy, or constitute a libel or slander against any person, firm, corporation, association or entity whatsoever, or violate any other rights not herein specifically enumerated. The Participant further represents and confirms that the Submission or any part thereof is not defamatory or constitute contempt of court or breach of contract, or breach of any provision of statute, nor hurt the sentiments of religious groups.
16. By participating in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, the Participant takes full responsibility of the pitching done to the Prospective Producer and fully releases SWA of any liability or claim in relation to the use of their work or any such partly similar idea or material or portion of the work, by the Prospective Producer, or any third party, in any of their future projects.
17. By participating in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, the Participant agrees to share the complete work with the Prospective Producer in their sole discretion and will be free to approach the Prospective Producer independently, without any recourse to SWA with the work, after the completion of the Script Lab & Pitch Fest. SWA shall not assume any liability and/or responsibility in this regard.
18. Upon selection, the Participant agrees to take care of all travel, boarding or lodging costs to attend the Script Lab & Pitch Fest. SWA shall not bear any such costs.
19. The Participant agrees to pitch only the script/s shortlisted during the process of Script Lab and shall not make any alternate pitch whatsoever, even if Prospective Producer insists. For sake of clarity, Participant may pitch alternate script(s) independently to Prospective Producer(s) after the completion of Script Lab and/or Pitch Fest.
20. The Participant agrees and undertakes to follow and comply with all rules/regulations/terms of the respective event and to also strictly adhere to any and all instructions of the Script Lab/Pitch Fest officials/organizers, at all times.
21. The Participant agrees that the meeting with the Prospective Producer(s) will be subject to such Prospective Producer(s) availability & time constraint.
22. The Participant agrees and undertakes to sign the ‘Standard Release Form’ with all the relevant documents including synopsis before pitching the script to the Prospective Producer(s) during the Pitch Fest.
23. By participating in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, the Participant agrees to release and hold harmless SWA, as well as its employees, representatives, committee members, organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, mentors and panel of evaluators of the Submission (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions arising out of participation in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest.
24. By participating, in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, the Participant agrees to irrevocably grant to SWA, its employees, representatives, committee members, organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest as well as mentors and panel of evaluators of the Submission, the right to use the Participant’s name, likeness, image, photograph, voice, performance, signature, and/or biographical data, in any media, manner, technology or content delivery mechanism now known or hereinafter devised, for any purpose, including, without limitation, in connection with the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, its administration, judging and evaluating the Submission, advertising and/or publicity of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, without the necessity of further consent or additional consideration.
25. SWA reserves the sole right to refuse evaluation and/or selection of the Submission in the event of a Participant’s fraud, dishonesty or non-entitlement to participate as may be determined by SWA in its sole discretion in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest under these Terms.
26. SWA and/or its committee members, employees, representatives and the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest shall not be responsible for any loss of the Submission due to any technical problems for such Submissions received after the deadline for any reason whatsoever including but not limited to as a consequence of computer service delays, interruptions, electronic failures or overloads, or for lost, misdirected or misplaced Submission. SWA reserves the right to its sole discretion to change the platform and /or the mechanism or deadline of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest and/or to cease acceptance of Submission, in any manner it may deem fit and necessary. The Submission shall be deemed void if unreadable, inaccurate, incomplete, damaged, tampered with, falsified, mechanically reproduced, not in prescribed format, irregular in any way or otherwise not in compliance with these Terms. SWA and/or its committee members, employees, representatives and the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest shall not be responsible for any lost, late or misdirected computer transmission or network, electronic failures of any kind or any failure to receive the Submission owing to transmission failures or due to any technical reasons.
27. By participating in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, each Participant agrees to follow these Terms and is deemed bound by any decisions made by SWA in its sole discretion, including any interpretations of the Terms.
28. The Participant agrees and expressly consents that the information provided by the Participant including any personal identifiable information shall be stored in digitized format, and processed, transferred or disseminated and may be used by SWA for internal purposes and to send in the future to the Participant any promotional information pertaining to the future activities undertaken by SWA. In the event the Participant wishes not to receive such future communications, the Participant can opt-out of the same by writing to SWA on the same email ID from which he/she receives such promotional information.
29. SWA shall keep all the personal data collected from the Participant confidential. SWA shall ensure that the Participant is contacted by SWA directly and SWA shall not share the Participant’s personal data so collected, with any party, save and except for the purpose of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest and/or dissemination of promotional materials. The Participant hereby expressly consents to the collection, storage, use, disclosure, transfer, of the Participant’s personal data which may be collected by SWA for the purposes of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest. The Participant hereby agrees and acknowledges that the collection, storage, use, disclosure, transfer, of Participant’s personal data by SWA is for a lawful purpose and is necessary for facilitating the Participant’s participation in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest and/or for communication of future events undertaken by SWA.
30. SWA reserves its right to amend (add, delete or modify) the Terms governing the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, prospectively or retrospectively, at its sole discretion and without any prior notice.
31. SWA reserves the right to disqualify any Participant if it has reasonable grounds to believe that the Participant has breached any of these Terms, as may be determined by SWA in its sole discretion, without requiring to provide any such reasons to the Participant.
32. Under no circumstance(s), shall SWA and/or its employees, organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest as well as mentors and panel of evaluators of the Submission be liable to the Participant and/or any third party for any lost profits or lost opportunity, indirect, special, consequential, incidental, exemplary, remote or punitive damages whatsoever. Without prejudice to the aforesaid, SWA’s aggregate liability for any claim(s) or series of claim(s), arising whether out of contract, law, tort or otherwise, in connection with the Script Lab and Pitch Fest shall be limited to INR 1,000/- only. The Participant specifically waives any right to seek injunctive relief against SWA as well as its office bearers, employees, representatives, committee members, organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, mentors and panel of evaluators of the Submission to the maximum extent permitted by law.
33. SWA reserves the right to withdraw or discontinue and/or terminate the Script Lab and Pitch Fest at any stage without prior notice and without any liability whatsoever to the Participant.
34. Your participation in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest by way of submitting the Submission will be deemed as an acceptance of the Terms herein.
35. Nothing contained herein shall be deemed to create a partnership, joint venture, agency, or an employer-employee relationship between the Participant and SWA.
36. Any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, as well as these Terms or their subject matter, validity, termination or enforceability (including non-contractual disputes or claims) shall be governed by and construed in accordance with Indian law and the competent courts in Mumbai, Maharashtra shall have the exclusive jurisdiction.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)

1. I am not a member of SWA. Can I participate in SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest?

• Ans. Yes, you can.

2. My SWA membership has expired. Can I apply for the Script Lab and Pitch Fest?

• Ans. Yes, you can.

3. My script has an ongoing case under SWA’s Dispute Settlement Committee or any Court of Law. Will I be eligible to participate?

• Ans. In case you have an ongoing case at SWA’s DSC or any Court of Law for a copyright infringement claim, you will not be eligible to participate with that particular script/impugned Script. However, if you wish to participate with any other script, you are welcome to apply.

4. Can I submit multiple entries?

• Ans. Yes, you may submit multiple entries but you will have to submit a separate form and fee for each entry. However, we encourage you to submit your best work according to you.

5. Will my script be produced by SWA after selection?

• Ans. No. SWA is a trade union for screenwriters & lyricists and SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest is an initiative to help writers. Production of films in any form is not a part of this initiative.

6. Do I need to submit references or recommendations by people from the Industry?

• Ans. No. The selection is based strictly and solely on the quality of the script, as may be determined by the evaluators appointed by SWA only.

7. Is the Script Lab and Pitch Fest genre-specific?

• Ans. SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest is open to all genres. The finalists will be selected irrespective of genre.

8. Can I submit my script for a web series, short film, TV series or any other format?

• Ans. No. SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest 2024 is exclusively for Feature Films. Scripts for any other format will not be accepted.

9. Can I submit my script in any other regional language?

• Ans. No. The scripts must be written in English or Hindi. In case your script is in any other language, please translate them to English or Hindi before submission.

10. How will I be intimated about my selection?

• Ans. Whether your script is selected or not, you will be intimated about the same. All communication concerning SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest 2024 will be done through email.

11. Is a project written by multiple writers eligible for submission?

• Ans. Yes. A project written by multiple writers can be entered. However, only up to three writers per project will be eligible to attend the Script Lab and Pitch Fest on selection.

12. Can I submit a script that has been previously submitted to other Script Labs or Pitch Fests?

• Ans. Yes, you can, unless the respective lab(s)/fest(s) you have submitted your script to, forbid you to do so.

13. Can the director of my project attend the Script Lab?

• Ans. No. The Script Lab is designed only for screenwriters. Directors can participate only if they are one of the writers.

14. Can I apply if my project is based on a real-life personality?

• Ans. Yes, you can. However, you must have the written consent/relevant agreement of the person and/or family in case of a biopic.

15. What if my project is based on a novel/short story/play? Can I still apply?

• Ans. Yes, provided you have the written consent/relevant agreement of the copyright owner in case of a book adaptation.

16. If my project is a remake of an existing IP; will I be eligible to apply?

• Ans. Yes, provided you have the written legal consent/relevant agreement of the copyright owner of the original script.

17. Will I receive any notes with reasons for my non-selection?

• Ans. Sorry. We won’t be able to send reasons for non-selection as we are expecting a large number of entries.

18. When will the Script Lab and Pitch Fest take place?

• Ans. The Script Lab will be conducted in July 2024. The Pitch Fest will be conducted in July/August 2024. The exact dates will be intimated to the finalists.

19. If I am one of the finalists, do I get to choose my mentor?

• Ans. The allocation of the mentors for each finalist will be done at the sole discretion of SWA.

20. Will there be any prize money on the final selection?

• Ans. No. There is no cash prize.

21. Will there be any penalty for non-submission upon selection or non-attendance of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest?

• Ans. If one fails to submit the script after selection or fails to attend SWA Script Lab or Pitch Fest, he/she may be liable to be barred from the next five Script Labs and Pitch Fests.

22. Can I pitch or sell my script to producers/production houses while my project is selected for SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest?

• Ans. Yes, the work on the project, including rewrites, pitching, sale, pre-production, etc. can continue as scheduled.

 BASIC BRIEF

As is evident, there is a huge boom in the production of storytelling entertainment. By implication, the demand for good writing has skyrocketed.

There are now scores of talented aspiring writers who are keen to enter the field and new writers who want to make their mark in the growing field of screenwriting. It is important that they ground their creativity in a solid understanding of the craft.

This workshop continues to give you that – a substantial introduction to the basics of storytelling and screenwriting.

Here’s what you can expect (sessions are of 90 minutes):

• An introductory session on STORYTELLING, a session on IDEA, PREMISE, PLOT, two each on CHARACTER, STRUCTURE and SCENE DESIGN & DIALOGUE.
• A session on WRITING A BIBLE FOR AN OTT SERIES.
• A session PSYCHOLOGY and the different DEFENCE MECHANISMS that people employ to hide their true feelings.
• Two sessions on MYTHOLOGY, its conflicted characters, plotting, and what screenwriters can learn from that.
• Two sessions on Joseph Campbell’s ‘HERO’S JOURNEY’ and on mythic structure and the struggles of the protagonist.
• Four GUEST SESSIONS – Sriram Raghavan (Andhadhun), Alankrita Shrivastava (Made in Heaven, Lipstick Under My Burkha), Mitesh Shah (Tumbbad, Script Consultant), Durgesh Singh (Gullak).
• A practice session on how to PITCH YOUR SCRIPTS.

It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the demise of our beloved screenwriter and fellow member, Sanjay Chouhan on 12th January 2023.  He was extremely talented and devoted to his craft, and his contribution to the field of screenwriting and Indian Cinema is invaluable.

 Sanjay’s career was an impressive one and he wrote some of the most acclaimed feature films including Paan Singh Tomar, I am Kalam, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara, and Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster. His work was incredibly influential, paving the way for many artists today.

 He joined SWA as an Executive Committee member in the year 2016. He led the way for many initiatives benefiting the members during his tenure and was part of the Welfare Committee from 2016-18. He was the Convener of 5th Indian Screenwriters Conference and served as the Co-Convener during the recently held 6th Indian Screenwriters Conference. He was also serving as the Vice-President of SWA till his last time.

 An inspiring writer and a very warm person whose presence will be missed dearly by all of us in the community especially at the SWA office.

 SWA pays homage to the talented writer and an activist for writer’s rights.

 May he rest in peace and our prayers for his family during this time of sorrow.

अत्यंत दुख के साथ आपको यह सूचित करना पड़ रहा है कि 12 जनवरी 2023 को कई फिल्मों के लेखक और हमारे स्क्रीनराइटर्स एसोसिएशन की कार्यकारिणी समिति के उपाध्यक्ष संजय चौहान का निधन हो गया।

संजय चौहान ने अपने करियर की शुरुआत पत्रकारिता से की थी। उसके बाद वह फिल्म लेखन के क्षेत्र में आए और ‘पान सिंह तोमर’, ‘आई एम कलाम,’ ‘मैंने गांधी को नहीं मारा’ और ‘साहेब बीवी और गैंगस्टर’ जैसी अर्थपूर्ण फिल्में लिखीं।

संजय 2016 में पहली बार स्क्रीनराइटर्स एसोसिएशन की एक्ज़ेक्यूटिव कमिटी के सदस्य बने और इस वक्त वह कमिटी के उपाध्यक्ष थे। इन वर्षों में वह सतत एसोसिएशन के साथी लेखकों के नाम, दाम और सम्मान के लिए काम करते रहे। 5 वें इंडियन स्क्रीनराइटर्स कॉन्फ्रेंस के संयोजक थे और हाल ही में आयोजित 6 वें इंडियन स्क्रीनराइटर्स कॉन्फ्रेंस के सह संयोजक के तौर उन्होंने अपनी बेहतरीन सेवा दी।

वह बेहद योग्य लेखक थे, लेखक के दायित्व को शिद्दत से समझते थे और बेहद संवेदनशील इंसान थे। उनके असमय निधन से हम लेखक बिरादरी की अपूरणीय क्षति हुई है।

इस दुखद घड़ी में जरूरत है हम सब उनके परिवार के साथ खड़े हों और ईश्वर से प्रार्थना करें कि उन्हें सद्गति मिले।

SWA SCRIPT LAB 2023 – TERMS & CONDITIONS

In order to apply to SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest 2023, it is mandatory to abide by these terms and conditions.

ABOUT SWA SCRIPT LAB & PITCH FEST 2023

1. The Screenwriters Association of India (SWA) is an association of screenwriters and lyricists. It is our continuous effort to encourage and educate emerging writers and help them to improve their craft.
2. As a part of this endeavour, SWA conducted its first Script Lab in 2022. Six feature length scripts were selected from 601 entries to receive mentorship from professionals reputed for their work in the film industry. Each of the six finalists had one-on-one sessions with four out of six mentors. The mentors who helped the finalists with notes and feedback were Abhishek Choubey, Alankrita Shrivastava, Shakun Batra, Smita Singh, Sudip Sharma, and Vikramaditya Motwane.
3. To add to this, 25 applicants were selected for a special event in which each one of them got a chance to pitch their films to as many as 20 producers, studio executives, and talent agencies from the industry including YRF, Sony LIV, Zee5, Excel Entertainment, Lionsgate & Roy Kapur Films .
4. Following the phenomenal success of the Script Lab and the Pitch Fest in 2022, SWA now announces the next edition of both events, this time for Series (for OTT platforms).
5. At SWA Script Lab 2023, screenwriters will be encouraged to submit their Series (Pitch Deck and Pilot episode screenplay). Up to six (6) finalists (subject to change at the absolute discretion of SWA) will be shortlisted after two rounds of selection (details below) for one-on-one feedback sessions with our mentors. Our endeavour with the Script Lab is to help the writers understand the scope of improvement in their own script/writing with these sessions, while also presenting them an opportunity to connect with these mentors.
6. At SWA Pitch Fest 2023, up to twenty-five (25) finalists (subject to change at the absolute discretion of SWA) will get an opportunity to pitch their Series to producers, studios and agents during an exclusive event organized by SWA. Once selected for the Pitch Fest, the writers will also receive a workshop to help them prepare for the event. Our endeavour with the Pitch Fest is to help the writers connect with industry professionals.
7. Only those entries that have been applied for Script Lab 2023 will be eligible for consideration for Pitch Fest 2023.

ELIGIBILITY:

1. The participant must be an Indian citizen OR an NRI.
2. The applicant must be at least 18 years of age on the date of application.
3. Scripts of only Series shall be considered for evaluation. No feature film or short film script will be eligible for the contest. Also, anthology series, where every episode is an independent story, will not be eligible.
4. For a series to be eligible for consideration, it must have a minimum of five (5) episodes and a maximum of twenty (20). The duration of the episodes can be anywhere between eighteen (18) and sixty (60) minutes. At this stage, however, we do not expect the writer to have written all these episodes. The details of submission requirements are given below.
5. ALL SWA members and non-members are welcome to apply.
6. Only scripts registered with a valid authority, such as SWA, WGA, or Copyright Office will be eligible for submission.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

STAGE 1: Your application must include the following in English or Hindi. (In case you write in any other language, kindly translate your work to English or Hindi before submission.) The last date to submit is March 1, 2023. All submissions should be made online through the Google Form link mentioned below.

1. A brief ‘Pitch Deck’ that must include (in a single PDF document):
   • A series logline in not more than 40 words.
   • A 500-word description of the world in which your story is set. It must include the location, the time, as well as the socio-political and cultural milieu of your story and your connection with / experience of the same, if applicable.
   • Brief character descriptions of the primary characters (not more than eight) in your series along with their character arcs for Season One. Word limit: 200 words per character.
   • A 500-word synopsis of the first season of your series. It must include the beginning, the middle, and the end of the first season.
   • A 500-word synopsis of the pilot episode. It must include the beginning, the middle, and the end of the first episode.
   • A short overview of the second season. Word limit: 300 words.
2. A short bio about you and the co-writer, if any, in not more than 150 words per writer. (Note that only up to two (2) writers per project can participate regardless of how many writers have worked on the project).
3. An undertaking by the participant, agreeing to the terms and conditions of the Script Lab and the Pitch Fest. At the time of making your submission, we will share a copy of the undertaking with you that you will be required to sign and send a scanned copy back to us.
4. Apart from these documents, you also need to submit the first ten pages of your pilot screenplay (with dialogue) based on the following specifications:
   • Fully formatted PDF document, registered with any valid authority such as SWA, WGA, or the Copyright Office.
   • The script must be typed out. Handwritten and/or scanned scripts will be ineligible.
   • The submission must be in Courier Font, Size 12 (formatted as per industry standards.)
   • DO NOT submit your full-length screenplay at this stage. Only the first ten pages of the screenplay need to be submitted.

1. Your pilot screenplay (with dialogue). It can be anywhere between 18 and 60 pages in length (formatted as per industry standards).
2. Brief outlines of all episodes of the first season. The season should have a minimum of five and a maximum of twenty episodes. Word limit: 300 words per episode.

Note:

• Do not submit any other document such as your research work for the script, casting preferences etc. Make your submission strictly as per the requirements mentioned above.

 OTHER IMPORTANT CRITERIA:

1. If you have an ongoing case at SWA’s Dispute Settlement Committee or any other authority including the Court of Law regarding copyright infringement claims on a script, you will not be eligible to participate with that particular script.
2. Multiple entries are allowed, given that each entry is submitted using a separate form and fee.
3. Scripts in all genres will be eligible.
4. If you have submitted your entry to any other script lab that legally forbids you to submit the script to any other competition or lab, please do not apply with that script.
5. We expect a large number of submissions and hence will not be in a position to give any reason for the non-selection of an entry.
6. Allocation of mentors will be at the discretion of SWA.
7. There will be no cash prize.
8. Failure to submit the full script after selection, or failure to attend the Script Lab/ Pitch Fest after being adjudged among the winning scripts may result in barring the participant from the next three editions of SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest, unless the writer has a valid reason, and has officially been excused (in writing) by SWA well in advance.
9. The six finalists of the Script Lab must ensure that in case their script is produced for the screen in any form, SWA will receive due credit as “Script Mentored at SWA Script Lab 2023”. This credit will be accompanied with the SWA logo. The winner shall sign the contract with the producers capturing this term.
10. The twenty-five finalists of the Pitch Fest must ensure that in case their script is produced for the screen in any form, SWA will receive due credit as “Script Selected at SWA Pitch Fest 2023”. This credit will be accompanied with the SWA logo. The winner shall sign the contract with the producers capturing this term.

IMPORTANT TIMELINES:

1. Last Date for Submission: 1st March 2023
2. Declaration of 30 shortlisted entries: 15th April 2023
3. Last Date of Submission for the Final Round: 31st May 2023
4. Script Lab mentorship program commencement: August 2023
5. Pitch Fest: September 2023

PARTICIPANTS’ REPRESENTATIONS, WARRANTIES & INDEMNITIES

1. The Participant represents and affirms that the Participant is at least 18 years of age as of the date of submitting the Submission and has read and understood the entire content of the Terms and accepts the same. The Participant is fully able and competent to enter into the terms, conditions, obligations, affirmations, representations, and warranties set out herein, and to abide by and comply with the same.
2. The Participant represents and undertakes that works forming part of the Submission are submitted to the Script Lab and Pitch Fest and is original and does not violate any statutory rights, common law rights, third party rights, title or interest, including but not limited to intellectual property rights including copyright, proprietary rights, or any other rights of any person or entity.
3. The Participant represents and undertakes that the Submission has been submitted for the Script Lab and Pitch Fest on a voluntary and confidential basis.
4. The Participant represents and undertakes that the Submission does not contain any confidential information relating to any third party.
5. The Participant agrees and confirms that SWA and/or the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest receive numerous entries from different participants during Script Lab and Pitch Fest and other events that SWA may organize. Further, the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest being creators themselves, professionally create several literary and dramatic works. These materials are independently made without referring to the Submission (“Independent Materials”). These Independent Materials may have incidental/generic or idea-level similarities with the Submission. Such similarities shall not obligate SWA and/or the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest to the Participant in any manner whatsoever. Provided, SWA and/or the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest have independently developed or legally obtained/accessed the same either from any third party heretofore or hereafter autonomously or exclusively from sources other than the Participant. Further, if the Submission or part thereof is in the public domain and/or does not constitute protectable property and/or is not original, the Participant shall not have any claim if SWA and/or the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest are associated with a similar subject material at any time.
6. Nothing contained herein or otherwise, imposes an obligation on SWA, to accept or utilize the Submission or part thereof and SWA reserves the right to accept or reject the Submission or part thereof at its sole discretion.
7. Submitting the Submission and/or participation in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest does not entitle the Participant to receive any compensation, monetary or otherwise from SWA under any circumstances whatsoever.
8. The Participant represents and undertakes that the Submission is not in violation of any applicable laws and the Participant shall ensure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations throughout the process of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest.
9. The Participant has complete authority and right to submit the Submission for the Script Lab and Pitch Fest as per the Terms, is not under any disability preventing the Participant from participating in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest or submitting the Submission, and is not bound by any other agreement (whether executed prior to or during the participation in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest) which adversely affects the Participant’s participation in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest. The Participant has not granted any right, title or interest in the Submission or any part thereof, to any third party and the Submission is free of any charges, liens, or other encumbrances.
10. By participating in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, the Participant agrees and confirms that in the event the Participant has co-authored the Submission with any other writer(s), such co-author(s) shall also be equally bound by all the Terms contained herein.
11. The Participant represents and undertakes that the Participant has not submitted the Submission to any other script lab or screenwriting competition which forbids the submission of the Submission to the Script Lab and Pitch Fest or any other script lab or screenwriting competition.
12. The Participant shall not behave in such a manner as to prejudice the reputation of SWA or restrict/prevent the successful completion of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest.
13. The Participant agrees and confirms that the Participant does not have any ongoing dispute pertaining to the Submission with the Dispute Settlement Committee (DSC) of SWA or before any other authority, including any action, claim or proceedings pertaining to the Submission before any court of law. The Participant agrees and accepts that if the Participant shall not be eligible to participate in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest with the Submission in such case.
14. The Participant agrees and confirms that the Submission or any part thereof does not violate the statutory rights of, or the right of privacy, or constitute a libel or slander against any person, firm, corporation, association or entity whatsoever, or violate any other rights not herein specifically enumerated. The Participant further represents and confirms that the Submission or any part thereof is not defamatory or constitute contempt of court or breach of contract, or breach of any provision of statute, nor hurt the sentiments of religious groups.
15. By participating in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, the Participant takes full responsibility of the pitching done to the prospective producer and fully releases SWA of any liability or claim in relation to the use of their work or any such partly similar idea or material or portion of the work, by the Prospective Producer, or any third party, in any of their future projects.
16. By participating in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, the participant agrees to share the complete work with the prospective producer on their sole discretion and will be free to approach the Prospective Producer independently with the work, after the completion of the Script Lab & Pitch Fest.
17. Upon selection, the participant agrees to take care of all travel, boarding or lodging costs to attend the Script Lab & Pitch Fest.
18. The participant agrees to pitch only the script/s shortlisted during the process of Script Lab.
19. The participant agrees to follow all rules/regulations of the event and to also strictly adhere to any/all instructions of the Pitch Fest officials/organizers, at all times.
20. The participant agrees that the meeting with the prospective Producer will be subject to Prospective Producer(s) availability & time constraint.
21. The participant agrees to sign the ‘Standard Release Form’ with all the relevant documents including synopsis before pitching the script to the Prospective Producers during the Pitch Fest.
22. By participating in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, the Participant agrees to release and hold harmless SWA, as well as its employees, representatives, committee members, organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, mentors and panel of evaluators of the Submission (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions arising out of participation in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest.
23. By participating, in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, the Participant agrees to grant to SWA, its employees, representatives, committee members, organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest as well as mentors and panel of evaluators of the Submission, the right to use the Participant’s name, likeness, image, photograph, voice, performance, signature, and/or biographical data, in any media, manner, technology or content delivery mechanism now known or hereinafter devised, for any purpose, including, without limitation, in connection with the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, its administration, judging and evaluating the Submission, advertising and/or publicity of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, without the necessity of further consent or additional consideration.
24. SWA reserves the sole right to refuse evaluation and/or selection of the Submission in the event of a Participant’s fraud, dishonesty or non-entitlement to participate in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest under these Terms.
25. SWA and/or its committee members, employees, representatives and the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest shall not be responsible for any loss of the Submission due to any technical problems for such Submissions received after the deadline as a consequence of computer service delays, interruptions, electronic failures or overloads, or for lost, misdirected or misplaced Submission. SWA reserves the right to its sole discretion to change the platform and /or the mechanism or deadline of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest and/or to cease acceptance of Submission, in any manner it may deem fit and necessary. The Submission shall be deemed void if unreadable, inaccurate, incomplete, damaged, tampered with, falsified, mechanically reproduced, not in prescribed format, irregular in any way or otherwise not in compliance with these Terms. SWA and/or its committee members, employees, representatives and the organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest shall not be responsible for any lost, late or misdirected computer transmission or network, electronic failures of any kind or any failure to receive the Submission owing to transmission failures or due to any technical reasons.
26. By participating in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, each Participant agrees to follow these Terms and is deemed bound by any decisions made by SWA in its sole discretion, including any interpretations of the Terms.
27. The Participant agrees that the information provided by the Participant may be used by SWA for internal purposes and to send in the future to the Participant any promotional information pertaining to the future activities undertaken by SWA. In the event the Participant wishes not to receive such future communications, the Participant can opt-out of the same by writing to SWA on the same email ID from which he/she receives such promotional information.
28. SWA shall keep all the personal data collected from the Participant confidential. SWA shall ensure that the Participant is contacted by SWA directly and SWA shall not share the Participant’s personal data so collected, with any party, save and except for the purpose of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest. The Participant hereby consents to the collection, storage, use, disclosure, transfer, of the Participant’s personal data which may be collected by SWA for the purposes of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest. The Participant hereby agrees and acknowledges that the collection, storage, use, disclosure, transfer, of Participant’s personal data by SWA is for a lawful purpose and is necessary for facilitating the Participant’s participation in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest.
29. SWA has the right to amend (add, delete or modify) the Terms governing the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, prospectively or retrospectively, at its discretion and without prior notice.
30. SWA reserves the right to disqualify any Participant if it has reasonable grounds to believe that the Participant has breached any of these Terms.
31. Under no circumstance, unless due to wilful misconduct or gross negligence, shall SWA and/or its employees, representatives, committee members, organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest as well as mentors and panel of evaluators of the Submission be liable to the Participant and/or any third party for any lost profits or lost opportunity, indirect, special, consequential, incidental, or punitive damages whatsoever. Without prejudice to the aforesaid, SWA’s liability, arising whether out of contract, law, tort or otherwise shall be limited to INR 1000/- only. The Participant specifically waives any right to seek injunctive relief against SWA as well as its employees, representatives, committee members, organizers of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, mentors and panel of evaluators of the Submission to the maximum extent permitted by law.
32. SWA reserves the right to withdraw or discontinue and/or terminate the Script Lab and Pitch Fest at any stage without prior notice and without any liability whatsoever to the Participant.
33. Your participation in the Script Lab and Pitch Fest by way of submitting the Submission will be deemed as an acceptance of the Terms herein.
34. Nothing contained herein shall be deemed to create a partnership, joint venture, agency, or an employer-employee relationship between the Participant and SWA.
35. Any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with the Script Lab and Pitch Fest, as well as these Terms or their subject matter, validity, termination or enforceability (including non-contractual disputes or claims) shall be governed by and construed in accordance with Indian law and the courts in Mumbai, Maharashtra shall have exclusive jurisdiction.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)
1. I am not a member of SWA. Can I participate in SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest?
● Ans. Yes, you can.

2. My SWA membership has expired. Can I apply for the Script Lab and Pitch Fest?
● Ans. Yes, you can.

3. My script has an ongoing case under SWA’s Dispute Settlement Committee or any Court of Law. Will I be eligible to participate?
● Ans. In case you have an ongoing case at SWA’s DSC or any Court of Law for a copyright infringement claim, you will not be eligible to participate with that particular script/impugned Script. However, if you wish to participate with any other script, you are welcome to apply.

4. Can I submit multiple entries?
● Ans. Yes, you may submit multiple entries but you will have to submit a separate form and fee for each entry. However, we encourage you to submit your best work according to you.

5. Will my script be produced by SWA after selection?
● Ans. No. SWA is a trade union for screenwriters & lyricists and SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest is an initiative to help writers. Production of films is not a part of this initiative.

6. Do I need to submit references or recommendations by people from the Industry?
● Ans. No. The selection is based on the quality of the script only.

7. Is the Script Lab and Pitch Fest genre-specific?
● Ans. SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest is open to all genres. The finalists will be selected irrespective of genre.

8. Can I submit my script for a feature film, short film, TV series or any other format?
● Ans. No. SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest 2023 is exclusively for Series for OTT platforms. Scripts for any other format will not be accepted.

9. Can I submit my script in any other regional language?
● Ans. No. The scripts must be written in English or Hindi. In case your script is in any other language, please translate them to English or Hindi before submission.

10. How will I be intimated about my selection?
● Ans. Whether your script is selected or not, you will be intimated about the same. All communication concerning SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest 2023 will be done through email.

11. Is a project written by multiple writers eligible for submission?
● Ans. Yes. A project written by multiple writers can be entered. However, only up to two writers per project will be eligible to attend the Script Lab and Pitch Fest on selection.

12. Can I submit a script that has been previously submitted to other Script Labs or Pitch Fests?
● Ans. Yes, you can, unless the labs you have submitted your script to forbid you to do so.

13. Can the director of my project attend the Script Lab?
● Ans. No. The Script Lab is designed only for screenwriters. Directors can participate only if they are one of the writers.

14. Can I apply if my project is based on a real-life personality?
● Ans. Yes, you can. However, you must have the written consent/relevant agreement of the person and/or family in case of a biopic.

15. What if my project is based on a novel/short story/play? Can I still apply?
● Ans. Yes, provided you have the written consent/relevant agreement of the copyright owner in case of a book adaptation.

16. If my project is a remake of an existing IP; will I be eligible to apply?
● Ans. Yes, provided you have the written legal consent/relevant agreement of the copyright owner of the original script.

17. Will I receive any notes with reasons for my non-selection?
● Ans. Sorry. We won’t be able to send reasons for non-selection as we are expecting a large number of entries.

18. When will the Script Lab and Pitch Fest take place?
● Ans. The Script Lab will be conducted in August 2023. The Pitch Fest will be conducted in September 2023. The exact dates will be intimated to the finalists.

19. If I am one of the finalists, do I get to choose my mentor?
● Ans. The allocation of the mentors for each finalist will be done at the sole discretion of SWA.

20. Will there be any prize money on the final selection?
● Ans. No. There is no cash prize.

21. Will there be any penalty for non-submission upon selection or non-attendance of the Script Lab and Pitch Fest?
● Ans. If one fails to submit the script after selection or fails to attend SWA Script Lab or Pitch Fest, he/she may be liable to be barred from the next five Script Labs and Pitch Fests.

22. Can I pitch or sell my script to producers/production houses while my project is selected for SWA Script Lab and Pitch Fest?
● Ans. Yes, the work on the project, including rewrites, pitching, sale, pre-production, etc. can continue as scheduled.

On 18^th of August 2022, the Celebrations Club, Lokhandwala, Mumbai, turned into a hotspot where the most coveted film producers, talent agents and broadcasters came all the way to meet 25 up-and-coming writers and listen to their absolutely brilliant scripts.

It all started in the month of February 2022, with a brilliant initiative by SWA’s Education Sub Committee, where it launched its first ever Script Lab for feature Films. Call to entry was made and SWA was flooded with more than 600 scripts from all over India. With a lengthy and strenuous shortlisting process, the jury arrived at the best 60 entries, further narrowing down to 30 and then to the ultimate 6 winning scripts. These 6 scripts were mentored by 6 writers/directors of repute. The mentors for the SWA Script Lab 2022 were Abhishek Chaubey, Alankrita Srivastava, Shakun Batra, Smita Singh Khan, Sudeep Sharma & Vikramaditya Motwane.

Soon after the Script Lab was concluded, SWA’s first ever PITCH FEST was jointly put together by the SWA Events Sub Committee and Education Sub Committee on the 18^th of August 2022 at the Celebrations Sports Club, Lokhandwala, Andheri West, Mumbai.

The process of SWA Pitch Fest was twofold. 25 best scripts were identified from the 60 shortlisted scripts of Script lab on one hand, and 20 top producers / talent agents / broadcasters were invited to this ground event on the other. Separate stalls were provided to the invitee producers and these 25 writers were given an opportunity to narrate and pitch their work to the producers on ‘one to one’ basis. SWA also organized workshops with the participating writers to help them prepare a good and effective pitch.

The event was an astounding success with almost 500 interactions between 20 top producers / talent agents / broadcasters and 25 upcoming writers during a period spanning from 9 in the morning till 6 in the evening.

We are pleased to inform you that SWA in its series of Screenwriting Workshops, is back with a two-day online workshop on ‘Creating Unforgettable Characters for A Series’ by Sweksha Bhagat.

Sweksha Bhagat is an alumnus of the Screenwriting Department, Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. She taught Screenwriting as an Assistant Professor at FTII (2019-2020) and is at present the Program Lead for Online Weekend Web Series Writing Course at Whistling Woods International, Mumbai. She has written award-winning television shows –  ‘Qubool Hai’, ‘Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat’, ‘Peshwa Bajirao’, ‘Kullfi Kumaar Baajewala’, ‘Kaatelal and Sons’ to name a few.

The workshop will be conducted online on 21st & 22nd May 2022 (Saturday & Sunday).

Identifying the protagonist for a story –  From whose POV must the story be told?  How does this choice affect the flow of the story?

How to identify the “Needs and Wants” of your protagonist and how to test that they are big enough to last through the long format of Series writing?

How to create a three-dimensional character after borrowing inspiration from your own life experiences?

How to choose the right characteristics for your character which will not just make them interesting but also help in plot development?

Session 3:

Conflict and Character – The interdependence of plot and character growth.

Action, Reaction and Response – The three magical words for building Secondary Characters for long format story writing.

Session 4:

Character arc – how does one map it across different episodes and seasons in long format writing?

स्वेच्छा भगत फिल्म एंड टेलीविजन इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ इंडिया (FTII), पुणे के पटकथा लेखन विभाग की पूर्व छात्रा रही हैं। उन्होंने 2019-2020 में सहायक प्रोफेसर के तौर पर FTII में पटकथा लेखन पढ़ाया भी है और फ़िलहाल विस्लिंगवुड्स इंटरनेशनल, मुंबई में ऑनलाइन वीकेंड वैबसीरीज राइटिंग कोर्स की प्रोग्राम का संचालन कर रही हैं।

The Screenwriters Association (SWA), in a most audacious initiative, set up a Script Lab last year that aims to give 6 deserving writers an opportunity to have their scripts mentored by the best contemporary writers of Hindi film industry. The Association is pleased to announce the names of the winning titles.THESE 6 WINNING SCRIPTS WILL BE MENTORED BY ABHISHEK CHAUBEY, ALANKRITA SRIVASTAVA, SMITA SINGH, SUDIP SHARMA, SHAKUN BATRA, VIKRAMADITYA MOTWANE. Each mentor will be reading and mentoring at least four of the six scripts during the lab.

Robin Bhatt, President, SWA, on final selection of winners said, “SWA is happy to announce six sets of writers with Six complete scripts, mentored by Six brilliant and acclaimed writers/ directors. It’s a SIXER. ALL THE WAY.”

Mitesh Shah, Chairperson, SWA’s Event Sub-committee said, “With the Script Lab we aim to connect emerging screenwriters with eminent makers who have successfully navigated the industry with their distinct body of work and help them mentor their first drafts. It has been a truly humbling experience selecting six scripts out of six hundred entries through a rigorous and transparent selection process. We hope this helps them get a meaningful perspective on their drafts and simultaneously get their foot in the door.”

The entire process from inviting entrees to final winners was divided into two stages.

In stage one, entries were called for SWA Script Lab on 8th September 2021. All SWA Members and non-members were eligible to participate. The participants were required to submit their bio, a writer’s statement, logline-synopsis along with the first ten pages of the Script. A total of 601 entries were received and a team of 12 readers went through them in the first round of evaluation to bring them down to 61. Post which the 61 entries were re-distributed among the readers to arrive at the shortlist of the top 30.

In the next stage, The writers of these Top 30 scripts were invited to submit their full length script which were then read by six readers in multiple rounds to arrive the Top 12 and finally the Six winners were chosen for the Script Lab 2022 after an additional tie-breaker round.

SWA would also like to take this opportunity to thank the readers who went through the humongous process of shortlisting the scripts in stages one and two. 

The Readers for Stage-I are Prathyush Parasuraman, Garima Pura, Roopal Kewalya, Arati Raval, Yashna Malhotra, Mirat Trivedi, Puspangshu Chowdhury, Rigved Siriah, Arkesh Ajay,  Chirag Garg, Manoj Kalwani, Arpit Purohit and the Readers for Stage-II are  Pooja Tolani, Debashish Irengbam, Sweksha Bhagat, Hitesh Kewalya, Gaurav Patki, Dinkar Sharma. 

The Script Lab will be conducted in the month of May 2022 where each of the top six scripts will be mentored by four mentors in one-on-one sessions. After the mentoring, the writers will be free to pitch their scripts to any of the production houses or independent filmmakers.

Honorary General Secretary of SWA Zaman Habib marked the occasion with the following thanking note, “Congratulations to all the six winners! I would also thank all the six mentors for coming on board and supporting this initiative. With our first-ever Script Lab we aim to nurture the new writing talent by providing them an opportunity to meet the writer-directors and get their scripts mentored. SWA also plans to make it bigger in the future and provide these six winners with a platform to pitch their scripts directly to the production houses through our upcoming Pitch Fest.”

Noted actor and screenwriter Shiv Subrahmanyam passed away on April 11, 2022, Andheri, Mumbai. He was 62.

Subrahmanyam was a popular actor and an established screenwriter, credited with the screenplays of cult Hindi films like ‘Parinda’ (1989) and ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ (2005). He also appeared in supporting roles in both films. His other films, as a writer, were ‘1942: A Love Story’ (1994), ‘Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin’ (1996), ‘Arjun Pandit’ (1999), ‘Chameli’ (2003) and ‘Teen Patti’ (2010).

Shiv Subrahmanyam was a Life Member of SWA and also a jury member for the SWA Awards 2020 and 2021. The Screenwriters Association, on behalf of the entire Indian screenwriters’ fraternity, expresses its deepest condolences on his demise. He will be thoroughly missed.

We wish his family courage and peace during this time of mourning. May his soul rest in peace.

Shiv Subrahmanyam (22 Dec 1959 – 11 April 2022)

Veteran lyricist and Life Member of the Screenwriters Association, Maya Govind passed away on April 7th 2022, in Mumbai. She was 82.

Govind was born in 1940, in Uttar Pradesh, and started her career as a lyricist in Mumbai, in 1972, after being discovered by director producer Ramanand Saagar. She wrote lyrics for films like Gaja Gamini, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, Main Khiladi Tu Anadi, Lal Baadaash etc, with hits like “Aankhon Mein Base Ho Tum”, “Main Khiladi Tu Anadi”, “More Ghar Aaye Sajanwa”, “Teri Meri Prem Kahani”, “Chun Liya Maine Tujhe” and many others. In her career spanning about 32 years, she wrote more than 750 songs for more than 300 Hindi films. She also wrote extensively for television shows, music albums and published more than 10 books consisting of poems, Nazms, Ghazals, Chhands, Dohe and Bhajans, including a lyrical rewrite of the Bhagavad Geeta. Being a regular at Kavi Sammelans for three to fours decades, she was an inspiration to all female writers, especially lyricists and poets, across the country. Along with her writing skills, Govind was also a good dancer, a stage artist and a teacher. Disco Pop King of the Hindi film music world, composer and singer Bappi Lahiri has passed away at 69.

Bappi Lahiri was know for popularising the use of synthesized disco music in Indian cinema and composed for a number of Hindi and Bengali films in the late 1970s-80s. Some of his most iconic hits included ‘I am a Disco Dancer’, ‘Raat Baaki’, ‘Pag Ghoongroo Baandh Meera Nachi’, ‘Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost’, ‘Naino Main Sapna’, ‘Humko Aaj Kal Hain Intezaar’, ‘Tamma Tamma’, ‘Yaad Aa Raha Hai’, ‘Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re’, among many others.

We at the Screenwriters Association are deeply saddened with the demise of Bappi Lahiri. He was truly, the one and only. 

Rest in Peace, Bappi Da! You have left us but your peppy tunes will forever be a part of our lives.

Rohit Vedprakash, Director – Series, Netflix: Rohit Vedprakash is the Director, Series – Netflix, the world’s leading entertainment service. Based out of Mumbai, Rohit joined Netflix in 2019 and oversees the overall local language content strategy. He is focused on bringing forth the work of the finest storytellers and writers in the country and making Netflix the home for diverse content. Prior to Netflix, Rohit has worked with The Walt Disney Company as a theatrical production consultant.

Umesh Bist, Pagglait: Umesh Bist is a director and screenwriter in the Indian film industry. He has produced and directed feature films, web series, short films, documentaries, ads and television serials. He has a postgraduate degree from the AJK Mass Communication Research Center at the Jamia Millia Islamia University in India. Bist’s portfolio of work includes a project for the Colors TV channel named Shaitan: A Criminal Mind (2012), seven years as a creative/series director for the show Kyunki Jeena Issi Ka Naam Hai, creative consultancy for the reality show Apka Sapna Hamara Apna (2012), and the development of a serial called Zindagi.com (2013). His most recent project was the acclaimed Netflix film, Pagglait (2021).

Charudutt Acharya, Aranyak: Charudutt Acharya is a critically acclaimed Indian screenwriter and director whose main body of work has been in Indian television drama. He has a graduate degree in film directing from the Film and TV Institute of India as well as a degree of MA in feature film screenwriting from the Royal Holloway University of London. He made his directorial debut with Sonali Cable which was released in 2014. Acharya’s body of work includes shows like Haqeeqat (2001), Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin (2003 – 2007) and Crime Patrol (2003 – Present) and Hindi films such as Vaastu Shastra (2004) and Dum Maaro Dum (2011). Most recently, he was the writer for the popular Netflix series, Aranyak (2021).

Anahata Menon, Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein: Anahata Menon is a well-known Indian fiction writer. She has contributed to films including Rules: Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula, Hum Pardesi (2019), Un Hazaaron Ke Naam (2009), Hubahu (2009), Star Bestsellers: Fat Chance (1999). She was the screenwriter of the film Straight (2009) and also created the television series D4 Get Up and Dance. Adding to her portfolio of work, she was the writer for the popular Netflix series, Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein (2022).

Debashish Irengbam: Debashish Irengbam is a Mumbai-based scriptwriter and novelist. He has written episodes for popular TV shows such as Adaalat, Dil Dostii Dance, Gumrah, to name a few. He is also the author of three novels – Me, Mia, Multiple, Charlie Next Door, Tune for the Dead (co-authored) published by HarperCollins Publishers India.

उमेश बिस्त, पगलैट: उमेश बिस्त भारतीय फिल्म इंडस्ट्री में एक निर्देशक और पटकथा लेखक हैं। उन्होंने कई फीचर फिल्म्स, वैब श्रृंखला, शॉर्ट फिल्म, वृत्तचित्र, विज्ञापनों और टेलीविजन धारावाहिकों का निर्माण और निर्देशन किया है। उन्होंने जामिया मिलिया इस्लामिया विश्वविद्यालय के AJK मास कम्युनिकेशन रिसर्च सेंटर से स्नातकोत्तर की डिग्री प्राप्त की है। बिस्त के काम के पोर्टफोलियो में कलर्स टीवी चैनल के लिए लिखी शैतान: ए क्रिमिनल माइंड नामक प्रोजेक्ट शामिल है। उन्होंने टीवी शो क्योंकि जीना इसी का नाम है के लिए सात वर्षों तक बतौर श्रृंखला निर्देशक के रूप में कार्य किया है। रियलिटी शो आपका सपना हमारा अपना (2012) के लिए रचनात्मक परामर्श देने के साथ साथ उन्होंने Zindagi.com (2013) नामक धारावाहिक का विकास कार्य भी किया। नैटफ्लिक्स प्रशंसित फिल्म पगलैट (2021) उनकी सबसे हालिया रिलीज़ है।

चारुदुत आचार्य, आरण्यक: समीक्षकों द्वारा प्रशंसित पटकथा लेखक और निर्देशक चारुदुत आचार्य मुख्यतः भारतीय टेलीविजन ड्रामा में कार्यरत है। उन्होंने फिल्म और टीवी इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ इंडिया से फिल्म निर्देशन में स्नातक की डिग्री के साथ-साथ लंदन के रॉयल होलोवे विश्वविद्यालय से फीचर फिल्म पटकथा लेखन में एमए की डिग्री प्राप्त की है। उन्होंने निर्देशन की शुरुआत फिल्म सोनाली केबल के साथ की जो 2014 में रिलीज़ हुई थी। टीवी शो हकीकत (2001), जस्सी जैसी कोई नहीं (2003 – 2007), और क्राइम पैट्रोल (2003 – वर्तमान), एवं वास्तु शास्त्र (2004) और दम मारो दम (2011) जैसी हिंदी फिल्में उनके काम में शामिल हैं। हाल ही में, उन्होंने लोकप्रिय नेटफ्लिक्स श्रृंखला, आरण्यक (2021) लिखी हैं।

Nation’s most renowned playback singer Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar (28 September 1929 – 6 February 2022) is no more with us. She was an industry stalwart we all looked up to with utmost respect and admiration. The larger-than-life Lata Ji was synonymous with melody and was rightly known by honorific titles such as the Nightingale of India, Bharat Kokila, Queen of Melody, Swar Samragyi (Emporeress of Voice) etc.

We at the Screenwriters Association are deeply saddened with this tragic development. Veteran screenwriter and SWA President Robin Bhatt expressed his grief with these words, “Ae mere watan ke logo, zara aankh mein bharlo paani…. hamari saraswati hame anaath kar ke chali gayi. We at SWA are praying to God: OUR OWN NIGHTINGALE IS WITH YOU, PLEASE LET HER REST IN HEAVEN!”

Urdu poet, screenwriter and SWA’s Treasurer Danish Javed shared his feelings with the following words, “Kehte hain awazeN kabhi nahi martiN, awazoN ke malik guzar jaate hain, hazaron saaloN tak zinda rehne wali dunya ki sabse sundar awaz ki malika Lata Mangeshkar Ji ko SWA ka akhiri salaam aur vinamr shriddhanjali.”

Screenwriter and SWA Joint Secretary Satyam Tripathy paid his tribute with these words, “सदियों में एक लता होती है और सदियों तक उसकी उसकी आवाज़ रहेगी – इस अमर लता को श्रद्धा के फूल अर्पित हैं।”

Ibraheem Khan Gauri better known to us as Ibraheem Ashk passed away due to COVID19 related complications, on January 16, 2022. He was 70 and is survived by his wife and three daughters.

Born in Madhya Pradesh, on 8th of July 1950, Ashq did his post-graduation in Hindi literature from Indore University. He went on to become a successful journalist, actor, screenwriter and a lyricist. Apart from writing many television shows, in his long career he also penned several songs for blockbuster Hindi films including Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Koi… Mil Gaya and Eitbaar.  Some of his other popular films which he wrote songs for are Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar, Janasheen, Dus Kahaniyaan, Welcome and Black & White. Ashk also tried his hand at scriptwriting, writing films like Dhara and Musaa: The Most Wanted.

He was also a remarkable poet and contributed immensely to various poetic forms. Ilhaam and Aagahi are among his most notable published works.

Ashk Ji was with SWA from the year 2005 to 2008 as an EC member and served the Association as a Joint Secretary (2006-2008) and a DSC member (2005-2008).

We as a fraternity of writers pay our humble respects to him for touching our souls with his beautiful words. We pray for his eternal peace and for strength to his family.

Screenwriter associated with many hit and acclaimed television shows, Kamlesh Kunti Singh passed away this week on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Singh was one of the most intense, passionate and beautiful voices in the world of Hindi Television when it came to expressing deeper nuances of relationships, voices of the broken and oppressed, voices of the ones who felt like a misfit in this society of conformists, who represented the beauty of pain and angst amidst a world mesmerised by superficial fantasies.

His big beautiful eyes represented pure joy, wonder and intensely felt emotions all at the same time. He contributed creatively and as a writer to many landmark popular television shows including Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu thi, Ghar Ek Mandir, Kumkum, Sindoor, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Keejo, Afsar Bitiya amongst many. He also wrote the award winning film Jhalki. We as a fraternity of writers and creative voices pay our humble respects to this beautiful soul, and pray for his peace, his strength and his joyous transition to the other better realm.

In these two decades, Tanya had the opportunity to grow along with the business of entertainment in India. Works: “Little Things”

Dhruv Sehgal, an actor, writer and director who is better known for his work in Netflix India’s Little Things. Sehgal is originally from Delhi and completed his education at Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication, Pune. Sehgal began his work as an associate director and co-editor for the documentaries, Baavra Mann and I am Offended. Kunal, a short film created by him in the year 2015 won the Golden Gateway Dimensions Mumbai Award at the highly acclaimed MAMI ( Mumbai Film Festival). He has also acted in many comedy sketches over the years with Filter Copy and Dice Media, who are leading content creators and publishers in India. He portrays the lead role in the series Little Things since 2016, he also is the creator and writer of the series. Little Things was critically and commercially acclaimed in the Digital world and has since gone on to win several awards such as Storyteller of The Year at MTV-IWMBuzz Digital Awards 2019.

Nandini Gupta is a writer with an impressive line of work, especially in the world of web series’ and OTT shows. Her popular works include the Trip, RejctX and Coco ki Custody. She’s currently working on Netflix’s romantic comedy series – Mismatched S2.

Puneet Batra is a writer and actor, known for the upcoming season 2 of Kota Factory, Operation MBBS (2020), Galti Se Mis-Tech (2018) and Office vs. Office (2017).

Following are the terms and conditions as amended by the Screenwriters Association. As a participant of “SWA Script Lab 2022”, it is mandatory to abide by these terms.

1. ABOUT SWA SCRIPT LAB 2022

1. SWA Script Lab 2022 is a platform where emerging screenwriters will get an opportunity to be mentored by professionals. Feature-length screenplays, both original as well as literary adaptations, are eligible for the lab.
2. The Screenwriters Association of India (SWA) is an association of more than 30,000 members. It is our continuous effort to encourage and educate emerging writers so that they improve their craft. As a part of this endeavour, SWA brings its first-ever Script Lab for fresh talents. This workshop is a channel through which aspiring screenwriters can present their work to industry professionals, who are widely appreciated for their work in the field, and get valuable feedback to hone one’s skills and script.
3. At SWA Script Lab 2022, emerging screenwriters will be encouraged to submit their scripts, either original or adapted work. Up to six finalists (subject to change at the absolute discretion of SWA) will be shortlisted after two rounds of selection (details below). Each finalist will get an online one-on-one feedback session with four out of our six mentors. Our endeavour is to help the writers understand the scope of improvement in their own script/writing with these sessions, while also presenting them an opportunity to connect with these mentors.

2. ELIGIBILITY:

1. The participant must be an Indian citizen OR an NRI.
2. Scripts of only feature-length fiction films shall be considered for evaluation (Entries/Submission). The length of the film must be at least 70 minutes. (This will translate to between 70 to 120 pages of a well formatted screenplay.)
3. The applicant must be at least 18 years of age on the date of application.
4. ALL SWA members and non-members can apply.
5. Only the scripts registered with a valid authority, such as SWA, WGA, or copyright office will be eligible for the Script Lab.
6. All freshers and emerging screenwriters can apply. However, one must not have more than one (1) released feature film as a writer or co-writer for Story, Screenplay, or Dialogue to their credit while applying for SWA Script Lab 2022. To clarify further, only writers with no films to their credit OR only one film to their credit are eligible to apply.
7. Writers having an associate or additional credit in films will be eligible to apply.

3. SELECTION PROCESS: 

The Script Lab selection process will be divided into two stages. In the first round, up to thirty (30) participants will be shortlisted based on their stage one submission made at the time of the application. They will be subsequently invited to submit their complete, fully-formatted first drafts of their screenplay. In the second round, from these thirty (30) submissions up to six (6) winners will be announced who will get an opportunity to be mentored by industry professionals.

– SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

STAGE 1: Your application must include the following (in English or Hindi)

1. Writer’s Statement — A brief note about your project and why you want to tell this story in not more than 300 words
2. A short bio about you and the co-writer, if any, in not more than 150 words per writer. (Note that only up to 2 co-writers can participate regardless of how many co-writers have written the project).
3. A logline in not more than 40 words.
4. A synopsis in not more than 2500 words.
5. An undertaking by the participant.
6. Apart from these five documents, you also need to submit the first ten pages of your screenplay based on the following specifications:
7. Fully formatted PDF document, registered with any valid authority such as SWA, WGA, or the Copyright office.
8. The script must be typed out. Handwritten and/or scanned scripts will be ineligible.
9. The submission must be in Courier Font, Size 12.
10. In case your script and/or dialogue are in any other language, kindly translate them to English or Hindi before submission.
11. DO NOT submit your full-length screenplay at this stage. Only the first ten pages of the screenplay need to be submitted.

STAGE 2: If you are shortlisted among the top thirty candidates you will be invited to submit your entire feature-length screenplay by 10th January 2022. The screenplay must be written in either English or Hindi.

• Do not share link/s of your project on video streaming platforms.
• Do not submit any other document such as your research work for the script, character sketches, pitch document, and the like. Make your submission strictly as per the Terms and Conditions:

1. IMPORTANT CRITERIA :

1. An undertaking must be signed by the participant at the time of filling the application.
2. SWA Script Lab 2022 is exclusively a program for feature films.
3. The script must be registered with a valid authority such as SWA, WGA, or the Copyright authority.
4. If you have an ongoing case at SWA’s DSC or any other authority including the Court of law regarding Copyright Infringement claims on a script, you will not be eligible to participate with that particular script.
5. Multiple entries are allowed, given that each entry is submitted using a separate form and fee.
6. Scripts in all genres will be eligible.
7. Submitted scripts must be either in English or Hindi.
8. Scripts with multiple writers are eligible for entry. However, only up to two co-writers will be eligible to attend the Script Lab upon selection.
9. All communication related to SWA Script Lab will be done through email at the ID that is duly specified by SWA as an organizer. The script sent via any other mode shall not be considered.
10. You must not submit any such script that has been previously submitted to another script lab which forbids submitting the script in any other competition or lab.
11. Projects based on real-life personalities, novels, short stories, or another film will require the written consent from the owner of the stories insisting on specific underlying rights.
12. SWA is not liable to give any reason for the non-selection of an entry.
13. Allocation of mentors will be at the discretion of SWA.
14. There will be no cash prize. However, up to six finalists will get a one-to-one online feedback session with four out of the six mentors.
15. Finalists will also receive a licensed copy of Final Draft 12 software along with the mentorship.
16. Failure to submit the full script after selection may result in barring the participant from the next five SWA Script Labs.
17. The winner must ensure that in case the winning script is produced/released, SWA will receive due credit as “Script mentored at SWA Script Lab 2022” along with the SWA Logo. The winner shall sign the contract with the producers capturing this term.

2. DEADLINE:

1. Entry Submission: 25th Oct 2021.
2. Declaration of 30 shortlisted entries: Last week of November 2021
3. Deadline to submit full screenplay: 10th January 2022
4. Script Lab mentorship program commencement: March 2022

The deadlines may change at the discretion of SWA.

3. SUBMISSION & ENTRY FEE:

INR 1000/- inclusive of GST for applications submitted on or before 25th Oct, 11:59 PM IST.

4. LEGAL CLAUSES:

1. You and your co-writer (if any) must own the copyright of the Entry/Submission/s made by you on an exclusive basis, and the entry, including but not limited to submissions, must be entirely original. You must acquire the requisite rights in the underlying work of your submissions as well;
2. The submission/s, i.e., film story and script must already be registered with SWA (or any other equivalent association) as provided under the Terms and Conditions.
3. The entry, or any part thereof, should not violate any applicable laws. Neither should it violate/infringe any other third-party rights including any form of intellectual property.
4. No rights of the submission/s should have previously been granted to any other person and/or party in part or whole;
5. The submission/s must be free from any charges, liens, encumbrances or any other third party rights;
6. The entry must not contain any confidential information or any other information relating to any third party that you are not authorized to disclose under contract or otherwise;
7. In the event of a co-writer participation, all the obligations and representation shall equally apply to all such participants. The co-writers shall indemnify SWA for any/all breaches/ claims by/ against any or all the writers.
8. You are submitting the Entry on a voluntary and unsolicited basis in confidence;
9. You must be fully entitled to make the entry and are not under any disability whether legal or contractual which prevents you from submitting the same to SWA;
10. SWA and its people authorized by SWA to conduct Script Lab (Authorized People) receive numerous entries from different participants during Script Lab and other events that SWA may organize. Further, Authorized People being creators themselves, professionally create several literary and dramatic works. These materials are independently made without referring to the Entries (Independent Materials). These Independent materials may have incidental /generic or idea-level similarities with the Entries. Such similarities shall not obligate SWA/Authorized People to you in any manner whatsoever. Provided, Authorized People/SWA have independently developed or legally obtained/accessed the same either from any third party heretofore or hereafter autonomously or exclusively from sources other than you. Further, if entry in part or whole is in the public domain and/or does not constitute protectable property and/or is not original, you shall not have any claim if SWA/Authorized People are associated with a similar subject material at any time.
11. Nothing contained herein or otherwise, imposes an obligation on SWA, to accept or utilize the entry in whole or in part/s and SWA reserves the right to accept or reject the Entry or its parts at its sole discretion;
12. Completing the entry does not entitle you to receive any compensation, monetary or otherwise from SWA under any circumstances whatsoever.
13. Non-conformation by any participant of the Terms and Conditions or any part thereof will immediately disqualify the Participant. SWA shall not be responsible for the breach by a Participant of the Terms and Conditions and such Participant shall indemnify SWA against any/ all claims received due to such breach of these Terms and Conditions;
14. You affirm that you are either 18 years or more of age and have read and understood the entire content of the Terms and Conditions and Undertaking and accept the same. You are fully able and competent to enter into the terms, conditions, obligations, affirmations, representations, and warranties and Undertaking set henceforth, and to abide by and comply with the same.
15. These Terms and Conditions or any part thereof, shall not be transferred or assigned by you. If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is deemed invalid by any law or a court of competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of such provision shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions of these Terms and Conditions, which shall remain in full force and effect. No waiver of any term of these Terms and Conditions shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such term or any other term, and SWA’s failure to assert any right or provision under these Terms and Conditions shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. SWA reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time and without notice, and it is your responsibility to review these Terms and Conditions for any changes. Your use of the website following any amendment of these Terms and Conditions will signify your assent to and acceptance of its revised terms;
16. The Participant acknowledges that the representations and warranties, indemnities, governing Law, dispute resolution, warranty disclaimer shall survive the efflux of time;
17. Nothing herein shall be deemed to create a partnership, agency, or an employer-employee relationship between the Participant and SWA;
18. The Participant/s acknowledge that in case the performance Script Lab and/or availing the gratification cannot be fulfilled due to an event beyond the reasonable control of SWA then such non-performance or failure shall not be deemed as a breach of the Terms and Conditions and if such inability to perform such obligation continues for a period of seven (7) days, then SWA may be at liberty upon their sole discretion to terminate the Script Lab;
19. SWA shall not be responsible and/or liable in any manner whatsoever for any network problem, breakdown of machinery, problems pertaining to the website, unclear network, disruption in the network, and/or the internet /network costs charged by the telecom/mobile/network operator, etc.;
20. In case of any telecom and /or network failure and /or technical failure /breakdown on the Website and /or technical failure in submitting and /or uploading the Submission/s, Application Form and/or providing the mentorship sessions happens, SWA reserves the right to its sole discretion to change the platform and /or the mechanism or deadline of the Script Lab and/or to cease from accepting Submissions, entries of the Participants in any manner it may deem fit and necessary. SWA shall not be liable and /or responsible in any manner whatsoever in the event of any malfunction/fault /failure in the Website, submission mechanism for uploading the Submissions and/or Application Forms, smooth online mentorship sessions to winners, etc. due to reasons including but not limited to technical /technological restrictions and /or due to reasons /events/incidents beyond the commercially reasonable control of SWA. However, SWA may make a reasonable effort to rectify such errors. Participant(s) shall not in any circumstances make any claims against SWA, their employees, directors, and its affiliates arising out of or relating to any and all costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind, including, without limitation due to any technical faults in the network and /or connections or directly or indirectly due to, to their participation or non-participation in Script Lab.
21. SWA reserves the right to abandon, postpone, withdraw the Contest or part thereof, at any time, for any reason whatsoever, without prior notice to the Participant.
22. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed as per Indian Laws without regard to the conflict of law rules, and subject to the provisions of arbitration, the courts in Mumbai shall have exclusive jurisdiction. In the case of any dispute arising out, or in reference to the Contest and/or other matters pertaining to these Terms and Conditions, including a dispute about the validity, operation, meaning, or breach hereof, such dispute/s between You and SWA shall be referred to a sole arbitrator appointed jointly by the parties and shall be governed by the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, amended from time to time. The venue for arbitration shall be Mumbai, and the arbitration shall be held in the English language. The decision of the sole arbitrator in this regard shall be final and binding on the aggrieved Participant. All the costs, charges, and expenses in connection to the arbitration shall be solely borne by the Participant who has raised the dispute.
23. Notwithstanding the foregoing, under no circumstances will SWA be liable for any consequential, indirect, special, punitive, or incidental damages or lost profits, whether direct or indirect, arising in any way whether in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise Without prejudice to the aforesaid, SWA’s liability, arising whether out of contract, law, tort or otherwise shall be limited to INR 1000/- only.
24. You specifically waive Your right to seek injunctive relief against SWA and/or the Script Lab, to the maximum extent permitted by law;

1. What is the exact nature of the Script lab?

• Ans. SWA Script Lab 2022 aims to help emerging screenwriters improve their scripts through mentoring by industry insiders. Up to six finalists will have one-to-one online feedback sessions with four of our mentors.

2. I am not a member of SWA. Can I participate in SWA Script Lab?

• Ans. Yes, you can.

3. My SWA membership has expired. Can I apply for the Script Lab?

• Ans. Yes, you can.

4. My script has an ongoing case under SWA’s Dispute Settlement Committee or any Court of law. Will I be eligible to participate?

• Ans. In case you have an ongoing case at SWA’s DSC for a copyright infringement claim, you will not be eligible to participate with that script/impugned Script.

5. Can I submit multiple entries?

• Ans. Yes, you may submit multiple entries but you will have to submit a separate form & fee for each entry. However, we encourage you to submit your best work according to you.

6. Will my script be produced by SWA after selection?

• Ans. No. SWA is a trade union for Screenwriters & Lyricists and SWA Script Lab is an initiative to help writers with their creative process by receiving feedback from industry insiders. Production of films is not a part of the Script Lab.

7. Do I need to submit references or recommendations by people from the Industry?

• Ans. No. The selection is based on the quality of the script only.

8. I have done many short films, documentaries, and ad films. Am I eligible?

• Ans. Yes, you are eligible to apply, but your submission should be a fiction feature film script as mentioned under terms and conditions.

9. Is the Script Lab genre-specific?

• Ans. SWA script lab is open to all genres. Only up to six best scripts will be chosen as finalists irrespective of genre.

10. Can I submit my script for a web series, short film, or any other format?

• Ans. No. SWA Script Lab 2022 is exclusively for feature films. Scripts for any other format will not be accepted.

11. Can I submit my script in any other regional language?

• Ans. No. The scripts must be written in English or Hindi. In case your script is in any other language, please translate them to English or Hindi before submission.

12. What is the ideal page limit for the final submitted script?

• Ans. Ideally, a feature-length script should be anywhere between 70 to 120 pages. Your script must fulfill this criterion.

13. How will I be intimated about my selection?

• Ans. Whether your script is selected or not, you will be intimated about the same. All communication concerning SWA Script Lab 2022 will be done through email.

14. Is a project written by multiple writers eligible for submission?

• Ans. Yes. A project written by multiple writers can be entered. However, only up to two writers per project will be eligible to attend the Script Lab on selection.

15. Can I submit a script that has been previously submitted to other Script Labs?

• Ans. Yes, you can, unless the labs you have submitted your script to forbid you to do so.

16. Can the director of my film attend the Script Lab?

• Ans. No. The Script Lab is designed only for screenwriters. Directors can participate only if they are one of the writers.

17. Can I apply if my project is based on a real-life personality?

• Ans. Yes, you can. However, you must have the written consent/relevant agreement of the person and/or family in case of a biopic.

18. What if my project is based on a novel/short story/play? Can I still apply?

• Ans. Yes, provided you have the written consent/relevant agreement of the copyright owner in case of a book adaptation.

19. If my project is a remake of a film; will I be eligible to apply?

• Ans. Yes, provided you have the written consent/relevant of the copyright owner of the original script.

20. Will I receive any notes with reasons for my non-selection?

• Ans. Sorry, we won’t be able to send reasons for non-selection as we are expecting a large number of entries.

21. When will the Script Lab take place and where?

• Ans. The Script Lab will be conducted online in March 2022. The exact dates will be intimated to the finalists.

22. If I am one of the finalists, do I get to choose my mentor?

• Ans. The allocation of the mentors for each finalist will be done at the sole discretion of SWA. 

23. Will there be any prize money on the final selection?

• Ans. There is no cash prize. However, up to six finalists will have one-to-one online feedback sessions with four of our mentors. Additionally, these finalists will also receive a licensed copy of the Final Draft 12 software.

24. Will there be any penalty for non-submission upon selection or non-attendance of the Script Lab?

• Ans. If one fails to submit the script after selection or fails to attend SWA Script Lab, he/she may be liable to be barred from the next five Script Labs.

25. Can I pitch or sell my script to producers/production houses while my project is selected for SWA Script Lab?

• Ans. Yes, the work on the project, including rewrites, pitching, sale, pre-production, etc. can continue as scheduled.

In case the film of any finalist gets made, the writer will have to ensure SWA the following credit in the film, ‘Script mentored at SWA Script Lab 2022’ along with the SWA logo.

We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and doing well. As you already know, SWA had carried out the first drive of COVID Vaccination for its members in partnership with Netflix during 1st-5th June 2021.  We got an overwhelming response and hundreds of our members were successfully vaccinated through the first drive.   

Once again, continuing our efforts to safeguard the welfare and safety of our members we are back with the 2^nd COVID Vaccination drive in partnership with Netflix. The vaccination camp will be held from 28 August to 30 August 2021 at Taj Lands End Banquet Halls, Bandra West, Mumbai. The vaccine is available to you and your 2 dependents. The slots can be booked for either first or second dose of Covishield. The vaccines will be administered absolutely free of cost to our members and their dependents.

• Please only come 15 minutes early to your appointment.
• Wear a short sleeve shirt if possible.
• Bring your Aadhaar card, CoWin beneficiary ID and details of any past vaccinations (e.g. whether you have received the first jab of Covishield).

What to expect at the vaccination site:

• Step 1 – When you arrive at the Taj Lands End banquet space, you will go through visitor registration and our safety officers will hand out a Vaccination History Form as mandated by the hospital. They will then escort you to a doctor’s consultation.
• Step 2 – Our safety officers will guide you to a doctor’s consultation room. Once your consultation is completed and you are cleared to receive the vaccine, you will be escorted to the registration section.
• Step 3 – At registration, your Govt ID / Aadhaar details and vaccination form will be verified. Once that is completed, safety officers will guide you to the vaccination area.
• Step 4 – You will receive a token at the vaccination area. Please wait your turn, and once your number is called, our safety officers will bring you to the vaccination booth.
• Step 5 – In the vaccination booth, a nurse will administer the vaccine and an administrative assistant will update vaccination details on the government portal.
• Step 6 – Once you have been vaccinated, volunteers will escort you to a waiting area, where you are required to wait for 30 minutes in case there are adverse reactions to the vaccine. Once the time is up, and if you have not had any adverse reactions, you will be escorted to the exit. Please ensure you return your token to the security officer before you leave.

Q: Where is the vaccination drive located?
A: At Taj Lands End, Mumbai: Band Stand, BJ Road, Mount Mary, Bandra West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400050

Q: I had registered for the first dose, do I need to re-register for the second dose?
A: Yes, we request you to re-register yourself and your dependents for the second dose

Q: Why do I need to re-register as I had already registered for the first dose

A: As per internal compliance mandate, we had deleted all the previous data. Moreover there will be a few members who might be travelling / not available for the second dose / already took the second dose elsewhere; hence these jabs can be used for others.

Q: Is there parking available at the hotel?
A: Taj will provide dedicated parking at the premises subject to availability.

Q: Do I need to install the Aarogya Setu App? 

A: It is advisable to install Aarogya Setu App however it is not mandatory.

Q: Which vaccine are we getting?
A: Covishield 

Q: Why is Covaxin not being offered?
A: Our hospital partner has secured vaccines from the Serum Institute, which manufactures Covishield and doesn’t manufacture Covaxin.

Q: How long will the entire process take?
A: The total duration, from the time you get to the building until the time you exit, is approximately 1 hour. In case we get an overwhelming response, please expect slight delays.

Q: Who is included in “partner +2”?
A: Family members (partner, parents, kids, siblings etc ) are eligible within the 2 dependents, as are people who live with you, for example roommates/flat mates and house help (maids, drivers, etc.).

Q: I have already taken the first dose, can I take the second dose in this vaccination drive?
A: Yes, if the first dose that you received was Covishield and it has been at least 84 days since your first jab. Your CoWin registration also needs to reflect that your first Covishield jab was completed at least 84 days ago. If you have taken the first dose before new regulation came, CoWIN might show that you are due for the second dose. But, you still need to maintain the 84 days gap between 2 doses. If you come for the vaccination, the CoWIN portal will not permit hospital staff to update the second jab before 84 days.

Q: I was positive and recovered sometime back, when can I take the vaccine?
A: If it’s been 90 days since recovery, then you are eligible to take the vaccine. However it will be dependent upon the on-site doctor’s recommendation after checking your medical history. Please refer to hospital criteria.

Q: How do I get the Beneficiary ID?
A: Once you have used your OTP and registered yourself on CoWin using Govt ID / Aadhaar, you can click on your name and you will find your beneficiary ID on the app.

Q: What is the difference between REF ID and Beneficiary ID?
A: If you register through the CoWin portal you will get the REF ID, if you register through the Aadhaar card, you will get the beneficiary ID. Both are the same.

Q: Do I need to get a Beneficiary ID for myself or all my dependents coming for the vaccination?
A: You need a beneficiary ID for all. You can register up to 4 members using one phone number.

Q: What if someone faints or is not feeling well after the vaccination?
A: A medical emergency room has been set up with a doctor and a nurse to attend to anyone who experiences adverse reactions to the vaccine. In case of emergency, we will have an ambulance stationed at the premises equipped with life support machines.

Q: Do I need to prepare or check anything else before coming for the vaccination?
A: Please refer to Pre/During/Post vaccination information provided earlier in this document.

Q: What if I don’t get Aadhaar for the vaccination, will other Government IDs be considered?
A: You may carry the Govt ID proof that you had used for enrolling on the CoWin portal.

Q: I managed to get my shot, however some of my dependents have yet to receive theirs. If I don’t accompany them on – can they still get the first dose as part of the drive?
A:Yes, they need to mention your name in the form under the first section that says “Referred By”

Q: My father has registered himself using his PAN number and received his first shot. Is updating the Aadhar number mandatory? His beneficiary id is available nevertheless on the system.
A: If you or your dependent have the ID proof as per CoWin portal, then it shall suffice.

Q: What if I took the first jab on another ID like, PAN Card, Driving license etc. Do I need to re-register with Aadhar?

A: No need to re-register, please bring in your ID proof that you had used for first jab when you are coming for the second jab, provided you have completed 84 days from the first jab.

Q: I have not taken the first jab earlier and this would be my first jab. Am I eligible for it?

A: Yes, you and your dependents are eligible to take this jab as your first jab however please note that we won’t be organising any more drives and you will need to get your second job through govt / private hospitals

Q: My dependent had taken first jab elsewhere. Are they eligible to get their second jab at Netflix drive?

A: Yes, they are eligible to take their second Jab at this drive.

Q: Is this chargeable?

A: No, Netflix will cover the cost of this drive

Q: Can we conduct our own vaccine drive and charge it back on to the project/ Netflix?

A: No

SWA is back with its series of Screenwriting Workshops! We are beginning with a 2-day online workshop on ‘TV/Web Story Writing’ by senior screenwriter Mr. Vinod Ranganath.

Mr. Vinod Ranganath has been working as a screenwriter for over 28 years having written many shows – like Swabhimaan, Sea Hawks, Kittie Party, Mere Angane Mein & Crime Patrol. Besides being an activist at SWA, he has also been teaching scriptwriting for 19 years. He has conducted workshops and master classes all over the country and abroad, and is a visiting faculty at FTII & WWI. He was also the main tutor of FTII’s TV & Web Writing Course.

The workshop will be conducted online on 24th & 25th July 2021 (Saturday & Sunday).

 एसडबल्यूए अपनी पटकथा लेखन वर्कशॉप्स की श्रृंखला पुनः शुरु कर रहा है! वरिष्ठ पटकथा लेखक श्री विनोद रंगनाथ द्वारा ‘टीवी /वैब स्टोरी राइटिंग’ पर 2-दिवसीय ऑनलाइन वर्कशॉप के साथ हम इसकी शुरुआत कर रहे हैं।

 विनोद रंगनाथ पिछले 28 वर्षों से एक पटकथा लेखक के रूप में कार्य कर रहे हैं और आपने कई टीवी धारावाहिक लिखे हैं जिनमें ‘स्वाभिमान’, ‘सी हॉक्स’, ‘किटी पार्टी’, ‘मेरे अँगने में’ और ‘क्राइम पैट्रोल’ शामिल हैं। एसडबल्यूए से एक एक्टिविस्ट के रूप में जुड़े होने के साथ ही वे पिछले 19 वर्षों से पटकथा लेखन भी सिखा रहे हैं। उन्होंने देश विदेश में कई कार्यशालायें और मास्टरक्लासों का संचालन किया हैं, और वे FTII और व्हिस्टलिंग वुड्स इंटरनेशनल में विज़िटिंग फैकल्टी भी हैं। वे FTII के टीवी और वैब लेखन के कोर्स के मुख्य अध्यापक भी रह चुके हैं।

ZAMA HABIB: Zama Habib, also known as Zaman Habib, is a Mumbai-based Indian television writer and producer. He has written for serials such as Nimki Mukhiya, Ishaaro Ishaaro Mein and Sasuraal Genda Phool. Currently he is associated with the popular shows, Anupamaa and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. 

VINOD RANGANATH: Vinod Ranganath has been working as a script writer for over 28 years and having written many shows of which some of them being Swabhimaan, Sea Hawks, Kittie Party, Mere Angane Mein & Crime Patrol. SATYAM TRIPATHI: Satyam Tripathi is an Indian Television writer with three decades of experience writing and directing television with some key writing projects being 12/24 Karol Bagh and Hitler Didi for Zee Television & Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi and Parvarrish for Sony Entertainment.

SWEKSHA BHAGAT: An alumnus of FTII, Sweksha taught Screenwriting as an Assistant Professor at FTII (2019-2020). She has written award-winning television shows – Qubool Hai, Chakravartin Ashok Samrat, Peshwa Bajirao, Kullfi Kumaar Baajewala to name a few.

APARAJITA SHARMA: Aparajita Sharma has been writing for Indian Television for about 15 years. She has written screenplay and dialogues for several shows on leading channels like Star Plus, Zee, Colours, Sony and others. Some of her shows are Kuchh Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi, Kulfi Kumar Baajewaala, Qubool Hai, Anupama and Imlie.

DEBASHISH IRENGBAM: Debashish Irengbam is a Mumbai-based scriptwriter and novelist. He has written episodes for popular TV shows such as Adaalat, Dil Dostii Dance, Gumrah, to name a few. He is also the author of three novels – Me, Mia, Multiple, Charlie Next Door, Tune for the Dead (co-authored) published by HarperCollins Publishers India.

स्वेच्छा भगत:  FTII की पूर्व छात्र रह चुकी स्वेच्छा भगत ने वर्ष 2019-20 में FTII में पटकथा लेखन की सहायक प्रोफेसर के तौर पर भी कार्य किया हैं । उन्होंने ‘कुबूल है’, ‘चक्रवर्ती अशोक सम्राट’, ‘पेशवा बाजीराव’ और ‘कुल्फी कुमार बाजेवाला’ जैसे कई पुरस्कृत टीवी धारावाहिक लिखे हैं।  

अपराजिता शर्मा: अपराजिता शर्मा लगभग 15 वर्षों से भारतीय टेलीविजन के लिए लिख रही हैं। उन्होंने स्टार प्लस, ज़ी, कलर्स और सोनी जैसे प्रमुख चैनलों के कई धारावाहिकों के लिए पटकथा और संवाद लिखे हैं। उनके द्वारा लिखे गए धारावाहिकों में ‘कुछ रंग प्यार के ऐसे भी’, ‘कुल्फी कुमार बाजेवाला,’ ‘क़ुबूल हैं’, ‘अनुपमा’ और ‘इमली’ का नाम आता है।

देबाशीष इरैंगबाम:  मुंबई में बसे देबाशीष इरैंगबाम, पटकथा लेखक और उपन्यासकार हैं। उन्होंने कई लोकप्रिय धारावाहिकों के एपिसोड भी लिखे हैं जिनमें ‘अदालत’, ‘दिल दोस्ती डांस’ और ‘गुमराह’ शामिल हैं। इसके अलावा वे हार्पर कॉलिंस पब्लिशर्स इंडिया द्वारा प्रकाशित ‘मि मिया मल्टीप्ल’, ‘चार्ली नैक्स्ट डोर’, ‘ट्यून फॉर द डेड’ (सह-लेखक) के लेखक भी हैं।

As per Govt of India directives, Trade Unions, like the Screenwriters Association (SWA) will now be under the ambit of 18% GST on all their services and activities. Thus, henceforth, all SWA Memberships, Renewals, Upgradations, Readmissions and Script Registrations will be charged extra 18% as GST on all transactions. This is consequential with immediate effect.

The 64th Annual General Body Election Meeting was conducted on Zoom today, on 18 April 2021 at 10:00 AM, in the presence of the Office Bearers, Scrutiny Committee members, Election Officer & SWA members. The Scrutiny Committee declared the elections open after confirming the presence of all the election candidates.

Unique e-voting links were sent to all the registered members. The Regular/Life members & Associate members voted online for the 21 posts of the Executive Committee, and 3 Posts of Executive Committee (Associate) respectively.

At 6:30 PM, the Scrutiny Committee announced the names of the winning candidates in a Zoom meeting in the presence of candidates & SWA members.

आज, 18 अप्रैल 2021 को 64वीं एन्युअल जनरल बॉडी इलैकशन मीटिंग सुबह 10.00 बजे ऑफ़िस बैर्रस, स्क्रूटिनी कमिटि, इलैक्शन ऑफ़िसर और एसडबल्यू के सदस्यों की उपस्थिति में ज़ूम एप पर ऑनलाइन संपन्न हुई। स्क्रूटिनी कमिटि ने उम्मीदवारों की उपस्थिति दर्ज करने के बाद चुनावों की घोषणा की।

ई-वोटिंग के लिये रजिस्टर करने वाले सभी सदस्यों को उनके ईमेल पर वोटिंग के लिये निजि लिंक भेजे गये थें। लाइफ़/रैग्यूलर और एसोसिएट सदस्यों ने क्रमशः एक्ज़ेक्यूटिव कमिटि के 21 पदों और एक्ज़ेक्यूटिव कमिटि (एसोसिएट) के 3 पदों के लिये वोट डालें। 

शाम 6:30 बजे, स्क्रूटिनी कमिटी ने ज़ूम मीटिंग पर उम्मीदवारों और एसडबल्यूए के सदस्यों के उपस्थिति में विजेताओं के नामों की घोषणा की। 

2021-23 के सत्र के लिये निर्विरोध चुने गये ऑफ़िस बैर्रस के नाम हैं –

The 64th Annual General Body Meeting of the Screenwriters Association & Elections 2021 will take place ONLINE on 18 April 2021, as per our previous announcement. The SWA Office Bearers, Election Officer, Scrutiny Committee and the SWA staff members will join from their homes while the SWA office will remain completely shut as per the COVID advisory.

The Agenda of the AGM, Minutes of the previous AGM, reports of the General Secretaries and the Audited Accounts Statement were shared with you on an email, dated 31 March 2021 with subject line: “NOTICE: 64th Annual General Body Election Meeting, Nominations and e-Voting”.

We invite you to join the AGM and e-Voting from the comfort of your home. The members who have pre-registered to attend the AGM and/or participate in e-Voting will receive unique links for the same on separate emails sent to their registered email IDs.

This is to announce that on 9th April 2021, the Scrutiny Committee appointed to conduct SWA Elections 2021 declared the candidature of all the candidates for the post of Office Bearers as ‘UNOPPOSED’, in consideration with the fact that only single nominations were received for each post. The election for these posts stand ‘CEASED’ and the below-mentioned candidates are declared as ‘WINNERS’ being ‘UNOPPOSED’:

Dear Members,

In consideration of the prevailing Covid situation in Mumbai, and subsequent directions by the Govt. of Maharashtra, we hereby inform you that SWA Registered office will be closed from 6th April to 30th of April 2021, and all staff members will be actively ‘Working from Home.’ 

All New Memberships, Renewals, Readmissions and Upgradations will happen through contact@swaindia.com, wherein, upon your query, we will send you a Google Form and Payment link. 

Online Script Registration will start effective Thursday, 8th of April 2021, where all the members with valid membership will be able to register their Scripts, Stories, Screenplay, Synopsis, Dialogues and Songs online, without having to visit the SWA office.  

Reopening of the office is subject to further instructions from the Authorities. However, we will keep you duly informed about the same. 

The AGM and SWA Elections 2021 will be conducted as scheduled on 18th of April 2021, as per the earlier notice. 

We stay committed to serving our members and anticipate your understanding in these difficult times.

महाराष्ट्र में कोविड की वर्तमान स्थिति और राज्य सरकार द्वारा उठाये गये कदमों को देखते हुये हम आपको सूचित कर रहे हैं कि एसडबल्यूए का रजिस्टर्ड दफ़्तर 6 अप्रैल से 30 अप्रैल 2021 तक बंद रहेगा और स्टाफ़ के सभी सदस्य ‘घर से काम’ (वर्क फ़्रॉम होम) करेंगे।

नयी सदस्यता, रिन्यूअल, रीएडमिशन, अपग्रेडेशन जैसी सभी प्रक्रियायें contact@swaindia.com के ज़रिये होंगी, जिस पर ईमेल मिलने के बाद हम आपको गूगल फ़ॉर्म और पेमेंट लिंक भेजेंगे।

ऑनलाइन स्क्रिप्ट रजिस्ट्रेशन की सेवा गुरुवार 8 अप्रैल 2021 से शुरु होगी, जिसके माध्यम से वैध सदस्यता वाले सभी सदस्य अपनी स्क्रिप्ट, कहानी, स्क्रीनप्ले, सिनॉप्सिस, डायलॉग और गीत बिना एसडबल्यूए दफ़्तर आये ही रजिस्टर करवा सकेंगे।   

दफ़्तर का दोबारा खुलना, सरकार के अगले निर्देशों पर निर्भर करेगा। हालांकि, हम आपको इस बारे में सूचना देते रहेंगे। 

एसडबल्यूए की एजीएम और इलैक्शन 2021 अपनी निर्धारित तारीख यानि 18 अप्रैल 2021 को ही होंगे, जैसा कि हमने आपको पिछले नोटिस में बताया था।

The last date to register yourself for the above has now been extended upto the midnight of 15th April 2021 midnight. 

 Please note that admission to the 64th Annual General Body Meeting is reserved strictly for Life, Regular and Associate Members, with valid memberships only. The link to attend the meeting will be shared on member’s registered email ID with SWA, for which you need to fill up the attached Google Form, choose option to attend,  and confirm your attendance. Also, in the same form, you may choose an option to confirm your participation in the e-voting process, by not later than 15th of April Midnight. 

Following your confirmation, SWA will send you 2 unique links, on your registered email ID, which will enable you to :

a) Participate in the Annual General Body Meeting via Zoom Video Conferencing.

b) Participate in e-voting and cast your votes for desired candidates.

मीटिंग से जुड़ने का लिंक सदस्य के एसडबल्यूए रजिस्टर्ड ईमेल आइडी पर भेजा जायेगा। इसके लिये पहले सदस्य को नीचे दिये गये गूगल फ़ॉर्म में सही ऑप्शन चुनकर अपनी उपस्थिति की पुष्टि करनी होगी। इसी गूगल फ़ॉर्म में आपको ई-वोटिंग में भाग लेने की पुष्टि भी करनी होगी। ध्यान रहे कि इस फ़ॉर्म को भरने की आखिरी तारीख़ अब 15 अप्रैल 2021, मध्यरात्रि तक है।
